I was in third grade arithmatic class when the news came that JFK had been shot. Later it was passed along he had died. School was let out and we all walked home, talking about it.

This was not long after the Cuban missile crisis that had had many of us and our families worried.

In the 50 years since we have gone thru a lot as a Coun try. Several wars, terror attacks and political scandal involving BOTH parties that have left us with real doubts about the government and little trust in those we elect to serve OUR best interests.

Fourth grade. The Principal used the intercom to call all teachers to his office. Very unusual. Our teacher came back into the room crying and sent us home. I also watched TV all weekend. It was difficult for a little kid to truly understand, but I was mesmerized by the media attention.

I was 1 1/2 years old, and my brother was five(5) months old...so my young parents(Dad 23 years old and my mom was 20) had plenty of things to keep them busy and preoccupied during this terrible time in our Nation's history..

I was born on the day of the Kennedy assassination. It gave me a special connection with the event, because the TV commemorations always cooncided with my birthday. Growing up as a kid they were every year, then somewhere in my late teens it became less of an event. Of course, 25 was big. The 30th anniversary came on the heels of Oliver Stone's movie "JFK", so it was rather sensationalized. The 40th, coming after 9/11, felt like a non-event. Let's hope the golden anniversary gives President Kennedy's memory the honor it deserves.

I was probably with mom and my big buddy. I don't know how they reacted ... I was six months old.

Who was responsible? It's about time for some more propaganda this time of year, right?

He was a naughty boy, but most folks loved him to pieces, EH?

Please, will you elaborate? What does a third grader think about world events as powerful as these? Guess it matters much on what sort of influence you were raised with.
