I was in grade school that day, when they made the announcement that President Kennedy had been shot. I still remember the chills that went up my spine. What a VERY sad time...:(

I was in my 7th grade math class at the time. I remember my Social Studies teacher running down the hall screaming "The president was shot, the president was shot!" My math teacher then turned on the radio and we all heard the sad news. Everyone was in shock and many of us began to cry. School let out early that day. What a horrible and sad day in history. It's one I sure won't forget.

I was a freshman in high school in social studies class when it was announced over the intercom that the president had been shot. A few minutes later it was announced that the president was dead and school was dismissed. For the next 3 days it was the only thing on tv (3 stations). I was just as shocked when I saw Jack Ruby shoot Oswald on live tv that Sunday...

I remember it being on television for 3 days...so when 9/11 happened...I made sure. my son didn't watch too much coverage. It's not good for a young child.
I was also shocked when I saw Oswald being shot...very upsetting.

I know. Time passes by so quickly. Just thinking about that day though, brought back so many memories. 50 years time span doesn't really seem all that long when you think about it, yet so much has happened during that time. So many famous people of the 50s and 60s have died recently or in the last 10 years. It's strange looking back and knowing that John, Jacqueline and John Jr. are now gone too. It makes me wonder what will be happening in the next 50 years.

Iconer...you could not have been alive, when Kennedy was killed, or you would not have given me bad icons for my post. Grow up!

I was in second grade.
We had just returned to class following lunch.
Mr. Neely, our principal, rang into the intercom system and announced that President Kennedy's motorcade had taken him to Parkland Hospital. There had been an incident as the motorcade was passing out of downtown near the Dealey Plaza Parkway.
I think he didn't want to say more, to not upset the children.
A few minutes later he asked us all to stand and follow him in prayer for the President.
Mean while the school secretary was going to each classroom to tell the teachers what happened.
Mr. Nealy re-rang the intercom and announced the President had died. He didn't tell us students how.
He dismissed classes and sent everyone home.
I walked the six blocks home, alone as usual.
I grew up and went to school in a part of Dallas known as Oak Cliff.
Across the Trinity river from downtown.
The part of town where Lee Harvey Oswald lived.
My home was about three blocks off of Jefferson Blvd.
Less than 2 miles from the Texas theater where he was captured.
I was 7 years old.
