Hi folks! The 4th of July is right around the corner from us. I can't wait because we will be in our new residence by the time it rolls around. My sister and I have been discussing what we'd like to throw on the grill that day and what to cook in the kitchen. I have a few ideas. Grilled bbq chicken, grilled hot dogs (my sister and her boyfriend's choice as I'm not a big red meat or pork fan), and grilled bbq beef ribs. They want to do hamburgers too, but I think all of this food is too much. The side dishes would most likely be grilled sweet corn, grilled asparagus in butter sauce, homemade southern style macaroni 'n cheese, homemade potato salad, bbq baked beans, fresh green salad (something healthy gotta be thrown in there, right?),I'm curious to know what you all are planning to throw on the grill or cook on the stove in the kitchen for the 4th of July :). I really wanted to do this really good sweet corn casserole but maybe they'll let me substitute one of the sides for this. Lets read what you plan to grill and cook....

haven't really thought about it. Probably chicken, maybe burgers. My world famous potato salad and baked beans, and some sort of dessert using fresh fruit from the orchard--whatever happens to be in season.

I make a killer pasta salad, mot mayonnaise based, but oil/vinegar based. Might have that too.

Mmmmm that pasta salad of yours sounds scrumptious! I haven't had a good homemade pasta salad in quite a while. I may make a pasta salad too instead of the usual green salad lettuce based.

starts with al dente vegetable rotini, cucumber, tomato, red and green bell peppers, black olives, pepperoni, cauliflower and broccoli florettes. Cover with a balsamic vinegar--your favorite flavor, and REAL shredded parmesan or romano cheese.

No problem. Whatever fresh veggies that you like in a salad would probably go great in it. Maybe pea pods, asparagus, water chestnuts..... chopped ham or chicken instead of pepperoni. It's a little different every time I make it.

I don't have any idea yet! I need to speak to my husband first and see if it will be just our family or maybe one or two others!

Years ago we used to go all out! Food you name it we had it......a lot we made, but everyone also brought something.

On top of that we had fireworks!!!!! I mean the big one's I mean when my husband and brother went to the fireworks store they came out with $500. worth! Not making this up!
They were like two kids in a candy store!:)

But that was years ago and now, I guess we've settled down a bit.......

Have a great and safe 4th of July everyone!:)

Do you cook your ribs in a pot of water first to make them tender? We do ours that way..........even put them in the Crockpot before. Do it till tender (few hours) then on the grill with BBQ sauce! Yum!

Think I might suggest going to a town about 40 miles from here they always have fireworks and a carnival for the 4th. Also have a relative who lives out that way! Also out here this town is known to be the best fireworks show around.

Have a Happy 4th!!

You too....i parboil the ribs, it takes alot of the grease out and partially cooks them, as the grill can be edgy on thick pork.....we still have leftover fireworks from Tennessee, last trip to Michigan.....We alway's stay close to home, as it's a tough night for our dogs.....
