a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
clinical, intellectual, cynical.

There are times when all the world's asleep,
the questions run too deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respecable, presentable, a vegtable!

At night, when all the world's asleep,
the questions run so deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

Dave, Big Time will slap you down if you don't play the way IT intends you to.
Go back to other thread and watch what he did to that sweet poster that didn't have a wonderful childhood. Biggie slapped her down good. Some have a strange way of enjoying themselves out here. AH

You forgot the word IT in title biggie.

I think the poem expresses that ignorance is bliss - the more the person learned of life, the more he was pressured by concerns and responsibilities - impossible to shed the ignorance and keep the bliss.

Or is it? Perhaps "who I am" is the one who is able to recognize what has ruined his bliss and should now be able to do something to change it. He wants to recapture a childlike happiness in the midst of adult concerns - that's noble! Go for it!

I think he is also expressing that our society has taught him all the wrong lessons - as if his child-life was pure before he was corrupted by our teaching institutions - he and the birds were thinking straight before they sent him away, right? Now he is concerned that if he rebels against what he has been taught that he will be rejected and outcast - I would have to agree - seems like the opposite of American, doesn't it? However, not rebelling makes him feel like a vegetable. So, he really has no choice but to stand up against bad philosophies if he ever wants to re-experience the straight-thinking that made him so happy as a child.

I liked it, Big Time, Bravo!

Trash day,

Has Come and

Gone with the wind
She always said I was lazy
Leavin' my home, leavin' my friends
Runnin' when things get too crazy
Out to the road, out 'neath the stars
Feelin' the breeze, passin' the cars
