ST2G. All the characters were well developed unique personalities. Favorites included DATA and Q. Both seeking answers to what made humans tick. Q I always felt he represented a deity figure. Forcing the other characters to look inside themselves for answers that a religion could not or would not give. DATA was always seeking emotions. Never aware that his curiosity about them made him more human than not.

Trek WAS first and many things from it were seen in the S.W. movies. I'm just sayin. (And NO, I will NOT list them for you nit-pickers LOL)

There is a character in the Star Wars expanded universe(EU), that I find quite similar to Kirk. That being a "Grand Admiral Thrawn". He spends near on two decades in deep space building his own empire, before returning to the established empire after the Emperor's death to claim it for himself.
This guy killed more jedi than even Darth Vader before he even joined the empire, simply by being a brilliant military strategist! I know trekkies love hearing about slain jedi.
But I like the "to boldy go where no man has ever gone before" concept. I think a lot of rocket scientists and astrophysicists maybe trekkies.

You're right - a lot of scientists are or were (in their youth) trekkers. All kinds of ideas from Star Trek have now become reality. Me - I'm waiting for the computer in my vehicle that will answer all my questions...
