The huge story of the abduction and alleged murder
of the little Welsh girl, who is still missing.

Goes to show folks cannot say WHATEVER THEY LIKE
on the internet.

Trolls .. beware.

A newspaper extract >

"Man jailed for 'April Jones' comments on Face-Book

I accept that they may have been in appalling taste - I haven't actually read them tbh, so I am making an assumption.

I accept that Face-Book and social media is not a free for all, and there may be a need to regulate comments such as for homophobia or racism, or certain behaviour such as stalking, or perhaps if he targeted the family concerned.

I recently posted a threading linking the story of a man meeting his cyberstalker and it was fairly shocking stuff.

I have limited sympathy for the man involved. But 12 weeks for comments that offended third parties? I saw Richard Herring on DVD over the weekend and he told a Madeleine McCann joke that went down pretty well."

You didn't mention the jurisdiction where the man lived.
We with the rights of free speech tend to take it for granted that the whole world is civilized enough to allow uncivil thoughts to be expressed.

When it is brought to our attention that this is not reality it offends our sensibilities.

All one can do is be grateful that is not an example of our lives and hope the less intelligent, uncivilized will catch up soon.

Well,
That is your opinion .. of course and while
it is fine,
I certainly don't agree with it,
in turn I can feel grateful that it is not
an example I can identify with..

when you consider it OK..
that a 5 yr old abducted child, who suffered with
Cerebal palsy, is still missing, presumed murdered..
her broken hearted Mom on TV pleading for her return

and half of WALES is out helping the police find her.

and you find it OK for anyone to make fun of it.

I rest 'my' case.

The time may come when you will be able to hover over the 'judge it' icon and see who sent it.

Grace, one can always write whatever they like, we have freedom of speech, however, if one is stupid enough to believe they can actually say anything and not suffer consequences, well, as I have stated many times in the past, prying eyes on Topix do include FBI, law enforcement, and what have you. Same goes for Facebook. People will never learn.

The opposite, in fact - he is an all round amazing cook,
he bakes and prepares lovely meals for me .. when time allows..

He is upright and honourable

That is true Vee,
and while there ARE differences of 'freedom of speech'
between your country and Europe..
with regard to 'Freedom of Speech'
I know it's written into your Constitution..

Still the basic instinctive feel for what's
right & wrong .. usually 'does or 'should'
tell us what is and is not the right thing to
say.

ie, if a man walks into a room on crutches,
no one would blatantly
say

'Why the crutches, are you a cripple'

Our own moral sense of right/wrong is usually
a better guide than any 'book of rules'

But Grace, we do have a sick society where people DO mock anyone with a handicap (like the man who walked like the child with Cerebral Palsy that I posted, role model for his son who did the same thing) adults are no role models for anyone, really, not today, maybe years ago where people had a conscience, morals, scruples, then people are shocked and horrified when they read about all the things that happen today. Be glad you raised yours when things were different and things mattered. Common sense does not prevail anymore. If you are an adult (forgetting how to act like one) and you have arguments with another adult, now they take it out on innocent kids. The majority of parents today should have had their tubes tied long before they bedded down under their drunk or drugged influence.

Not to be difficult but........

You are talking about civility or a lack of class, that has certainly left the building (meaning internet). Interesting what supposedly civilized folks will say on the net with no potential repercussions, versus face to face, when a violent reaction is possible from an offended party.

Free speech is just that, the ability to say anything, no matter how offensive. It should not be subject to opinions of right and wrong, those vary from person to person and would be impossible to agree on.

It should be all speech with no exceptions, IMO.

Unfortunately, Grace, there are many sick people out there, on Topix and in the RW. It makes me wonder when all humans will ever learn to treat each other with kindness and respect. Perhaps not until the Day of the Lord, I fear...

Since you inquired -
The man who made the jokes is ENGLISH:
Dam old lady you looking to slap someone for shots and giggles?

I tried to express a compassionate answer to you by insulting the idiot who would say gross and crass things over such a horrendous event.

While mentioning the civilized world, I was speaking of both Europe and Americas.
Never would have thought a person from over the pond was the retarded party who ended up in jail for speaking his mind.

Kick the chip if you can't relate to my answer.
IDGAF whether you agree with it or not.

I find your assumption that
" you consider it OK..
that a 5 yr old abducted child, who suffered with
Cerebal palsy, is still missing, presumed murdered..."
an inflammatory, uncalled for, and hateful insult.

You obviously can not grasp the concept of freedom of speech and thought.
I don't hold that against you; due to your lack of education or experience with it.
That would be unfair of me to do so.

So was the uncivilized cretin they have under arrest FOR THE ABDUCTION and murder of this child an Englishman also or was he one of your own lucky charms?
What will his punishment be?
I do hope it is swift and involves an extended period of pain and suffering.

I regret that you thought I meant YOU,
when I wrote the piece about> ' making fun of
the missing five yr old girl'.. I didn't mean you *personally*
but I take responsibility for that misunderstanding,
in how I presented it;

What I really meant was..
when you speak of free speech,
and, in that you seemed to agree that
the chap on Facebook, who made the 'fun' comments
[the subject of this very discussion]

was within his rights to joke about it.
I didn't think so:

In the last paragraph you suggest the offender will
hopefully,
endure 'an extended period of pain and suffering'

I don't agree with that either,
as to swap violence for violence...
in never the answer..
as
nothing is learned.

[to my way of thinking]

Punishment, ie.. loss of freedom..
where he will have plenty time to think
about what he did.

BTW,
He is English:
