It’s called a mimic in nature when a species wears
the colors of its kin. There’s something in it: the hair
the skin, the sound, even the way a thing breathes
can be deceiving. The language of the body
can so easily be copied – a close call,
if you will, a rose by any other name.
Like a sheep in wolf’s clothing, going by the wolf’s name,
a weaker creature conceals itself in what the stronger wears.
Some dazzle for distraction: the octopus’ calling
card is a cloud of black ink. An ermine turns white its hair.
Call it camouflage or crypsis – to hide one’s body
in a similar scape, to trick a killer, to keep breathing.
Lappet Moths lie dead like leaves, barely taking breaths.
Danaid Eggflies copy Monarch butterflies whose name
strikes flight and fear into the feathered bodies
of foes who know to avoid the poison orange they wear.
Photuris fireflies are nicknamed ‘femme fatales’; their hairy
hoax to catch a prey is to fake its mating call.
The cuckoo bird fools other birds into calling
its egg their own. They’ll feed it, raise it, breathe
life into it, never questioning its different air
or size, or why it does not come to its own name.
Milksnakes know coral snakes are poisonous, so wear
their stripes, black-red-yellow, like caution tape on the body.
Uroplatus geckos are masters of disguise; their bodies
are practically invisible to passersby. At a hunter’s call,
the chameleon chromatically changes what it wears.
Evolution. A cunning adaptation. To freely breathe
under the dubious spoof of a species by another name.
The clever care to modify their face or shape or hair.
In summertime the once-white snowshoe hare
turns its fur a rusty brown. An anglerfish’s funny body
baits prey with a hook-like lure, analogous to its name.
There’s something in it: the way one knows how to call
to another, knows the language of movement, breath,
and scent. Knows it is home by what its mate wears.
In our bedroom, I wear my hair the way she has
in photos. I breathe your body in as she would
and I do not shudder when you call her name.

from the earth
sea salt beds
divine lip rogue
lip sip suck

on folded rounds
and shaven mounds

For a poet a tree is the fruit,
Not the root of poetry,
Origins are unimportant....
Colour, shape misleading,
What's lovely is the sound,
On all its branches,
Meaning blossoms green,
Then falls yellow, crimson, brown,
A tree as a poem sings,
Wind songs wherever,
Its leaves cover the ground.

If ya all notice, Adrian is a hot item of Topix..he's banned, he returns with new posted threads..and all have to do with his poetry..whether his own or copycats them..let him purrrr his poems on Topix, he's NOT hurting anyone. We all can read and judge them, once published they are there for all to enjoy. Ya know YOU are only popular when folks are chatting about ya...just ask the movie star has beens..once the chit chat stops, so does the spotlight. Let him be.....
I thanked you for that when you wrote it, why now are you retracting it ?
I have NO reason to rescind my previous acknowledgement on the absurdly of this subject.

A PLEDGE TO THE WIND."
Onward from vast uncharted spaces
Forward through timeless voids
Into all of us surges and races
The measureless might of the wind.
In the steep silence of thin blue air
High on a lonely cliff edge
Where the air has a clear, clean rarity,
I give to the wind........my pledge.
By the strength of my arm, by the sight of my eyes,
By the skill of my fingers, I swear,
As long as life dwells in me, never will I
follow any way but the sweeping way of the wind.
"Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth."

Hearts are bleeding
Tears are falling
Collect your coat
Wave goodbye to your friends
The soul of a poet
Has reached a new place
A beautiful freedom is felt
And he is now
All that he should be
All is good in his world
All is as
One day we all shall see
Words floating in the willdness
I will search by yonder tree
Im sure I heard him singing
To all the poets
He sing's that he is free
I journey down to the river
where the child still weaves his rythm's
And he will be sitting peacefully
As only he now has the time
All we need to do is listen
all we need to do is believe
all we need to do is notice
the sound of the river
the touch of the wind
The warmth of the sun
cradle this thought within
and he will surely live forever young
Withing the weave of a poet's dream

tiny peices, broken
you to me....
line in this sand
you dared to cross
you rose, to fall.
my silent song
you meet me on my road........

crazy blank page prompt
why do I look for prompts anyway
even though I
to fill the pages for
my mind is blank not like
other people who are empty headed
my head is so damn full
there's a fight
for the front
of the line
people don't know or
care for that matter
no reason they should
so I do my
best to look like
well, it is what
we are expected

Encapsulation of emotions felt,
Nuance soft, or brightly coloured cape,
Can seldom be expressed, pressed into shape
As free verse rants inelegant spill spelt.
Poetic strictures tie elastic belt
Supplying frameworks for the mind to drape
Unstructured dreams with rainbow sellotape.
Life’s littleness 'ist alles in die Welt',
Alas mocks Man. Too soon ambitions melt
To watershed necrologies. Black crepe.
Is all that is recalled. There’s no escape
Offered here howe’er life's cards are dealt.
Now Fate’s dark finger, having writ, forgets
Sentiments. Grim Reaper sickle whets.

some words write more than others
some words count more than others
some words know more than others
some words show more than others

And then you plant your ideas in my mind,
until I need your thoughts to feel complete,
and I become a thinker of your kind.
And then you throw sentences on my sheet;
I write your verse whenever your muse calls,
I am the author sitting at your feet.
And then you hang your canvas on my walls;
I draw the lines, colour your existence,
I am the painter of your waterfalls.
And then you play the tune of that slow dance,
I glide with you and try to hold my part,
I follow you to end up in a trance.
And then you plant your feelings in my heart,
I fall in love and a new story starts.

Science supposes there is
Eighty percentn of matter
That we cannot see
The Black Hole of outer space.
It's unseen gravity
Is keeping our universe
From coming apart
We are like a butterfly
A butterfly inside
A solid glass paperweight
It's part of what
Keeps me from flying apart.
