I just got done arguing with someone. Sheesh! It was over something I read in a book and I don't believe it. It's about edible plants....I know that the plants in your part of the world vary from the plants in mine, but you wanna hear the crazy thing I just read?
Absolutely....

I don't know if you have stinging nettle. Here we call that itch weed, but it's proper name is stinging nettle. That's listed as an edible plant in the official boy scout handbook and I'm just having a hard time believing that. It puts tiny little scratches in you and makes you itch until you wash the area. Wouldn't it do the same thing to your throat? I'm assuming they just mean it's not poisonous and won't kill you?

My late grandmother on father's side ate them, along with dandelion salad, water cress etc.
Here is a link I found interesting on the topic. http://www.ediblewildfood.com/stinging-nettle...

Yikes! That is incredibly weird. Training for two years and all that guy got is a little trophy? I'll stick to ghetto hams should I ever decide to enter a food eating contest...lol

We have often wondered in our travels on bike past three years what sage is good for? There is miles and miles of it in both US and Western Canada. I was told by the Indians in Lillooet they used it for medicinal purposes, rubbed it on themselves for protection from mosquitos etc.

I find natural medicines and remedies fascinating and more preferrable than the pill pushers we call doctors. My great great grandmother as a Cree medicine woman, so I guess my like of this way is hereditary..lol!

Thanks for the link. That is interesting....that makes a lot more sense to dry them and cook them. What I read said they can be eaten raw or cooked. Just seemed weird to me..I've had dandelion salad and watercress among other edible plants, both wild and in the garden, just couldn't imagine eating itch weed.....I'll let you all carry on without me. Just realized I'm hungry and need to eat......not nettle. I'll save that for when I'm stranded and starving and all of the other edible plants are nowhere to be seen....Have a great day everyone.
