Therapy helped kids overcome peanut allergy, but don't try it at home ...
article.wn.com/view/2014/01/30/Therapy_helped... ...

There was an article in the morning paper (Sunday) about that. Researchers slowly introduced and increased a peanut protein powder to kids. B the end of the study the kids were able to eat a few peanuts with no problems. The article said the process would not cure the peanut allergy, but would make it possible to accidently eat something with trace amounts of peanuts and not die from it.

Huge advance for those with a peanut allergy.

Did you know A typical New York City Subway train consists of 8 to 11 cars, although shuttles can have as few as two, and the train can range from 150 to 600 feet (46 to 183 m) in length?

Mary Babnik Brown was the first woman to have her hair used as crosshairs in military aircraft bombsights.
..........
[wikipedia]
Mary Babnik Brown (November 22, 1907 – 1991) was an American citizen who became known for having donated her hair to the United States military during World War II. Thirty-four inches long, her blonde hair had never been chemically treated or heated with curling irons, and therefore proved resilient enough to use as crosshairs in Norden bombsights for bomber aircraft, which have to withstand a wide range of temperatures and humidity.[3]
Brown was never compensated for her donation; she was offered war savings stamps, but turned them down, believing what she had done was her patriotic duty.[2] She was told at the time only that the hair was needed for meteorological instruments, and had no idea how it had been used until 1987.[4] President Ronald Reagan wrote to her that year on her 80th birthday to thank her, and in 1991 she received a special achievement award from the Colorado Aviation Historical Society during a ceremony at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.[3]

I think you also tend to develop allergies for the foods you eat most often, which are the ones you like the most.

Did you know you can make a hand warmer from ice melt??
The calcium chloride type ice melter( not rock salt) when added to a little water gets hot. If you put a handful in a ziplock with a teaspoon of water it will immediately generate heat as it dissolves. When it stops being warm drain the water and add a little more. Depending on the mix it can get quite hot even. Even enough to warm water if you put the bag in it. Just don't let the CaCl2 get in your water you're warming.
There is no chemical reaction in this as opposed to other common methods of producing heat. It is called Exothermic Enthalpy of Solution. The heat comes only from the Calcium Chloride dissolving in the water, you start with H2O and CaCl2 and end with H2O and CaCl2.
Regular salt and water produces Endothermic Enthalpy of Solution and actually makes it colder.
