Arctic ice isn't really shrinking; it's melting. Don't worry, this winter seawater will freeze to create more arctic ice.

Isn't climate wonderful?

At the rate it is melting that's doubtful.

The climate change toward warmer winters won't
help w/ "refreezing" the arctic ice.

With the strange and devastating heat wave
this past summer I'm wondering what this winter
will look like.

Last winter was "record" warm temps.

It is shrinking because it is melting in summer more than it is refreezing in the winter. It is still being debated as to whether the apparent global warming is simply a natural cycle or man made. My opinion is that we cannot afford to take chances and should at least take some reasonable and careful steps and not draconian steps as proposed by the environmental extremists and at least try to slow down rather than escalate the build up of alleged greenhouse gasses. The wiaest path is somewhere in between slash and burn entupreneur

I inadvertently posted my last comment before finishing. Let me pick up with my last statement. The wisest choice is somewhere in between slash and burn business practices and radical environmentalism. Neither are in our best interests.

Nearly 230 billion tons of ice is melting into the ocean from glaciers, ice caps, and mountaintops annually which is actually less than previous estimates, according to new research by scientists at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

If the amount of ice lost between 2003 and 2010 covered the United States, the whole country would be under one-and-a-half feet of water, or it'd fill Lake Erie eight times, researchers say. Ocean levels worldwide are rising about six hundredths of an inch per year, according to researcher John Wahr.

While vast quantities of ice melting into the ocean is not exactly good news, about 30 percent less ice is melting than previously thought.

Data was gleaned from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment satellite, which was launched as a joint project between NASA and Germany in 2002. The GRACE satellite measures gravity, which is related to mass, in 20 distinct regions worldwide.

Even with an eight-year estimate, it's not clear how far into the future you can project. A lot of people want to predict into the end of the century, but it's too dangerous to do that. We don't have enough info to know what'll happen. There's some ebb and flow to these things.

I'm curious as to what will happen.
Lots of theories r/t large amts of fresh water
diluting the saline balance of sea water.

Do you know of any experimental test that shows we can mitigate climate change? If not, let's not worry about CO2, since carbon dioxide is essential to life.
