Oh, I don't know. We have a tendency to make the world much more complicated than it really is.

If it were so simple... I think we'd have peace.

Course not. We're not wired for peace. At our core is fear and distrust. And, frankly, it's getting worse.

Especially if you've ever had to use the toilet at the airport.

Do you think that is all that is at the core?

No. But if you boil us down, condense us to our base elements, you will find that a large percentage of our being is based on this. It's a primitive survival thing.

I think, when it's all said and done, there is really little good in us but then I will confess to being particularly misanthropic lately. Perhaps I am just projecting.

Projecting,.. or maybe getting displaced rationalization?
If we boil down as you say, look at homo erectus, why did he have ritualistic burials? He looks savage by all standards yet his other comtemporaries that were presumably more advance did not.

Apes, elephants, whales will all show remorse in the same fashion. Perhaps an evolutionary thing. I hardly think the ritual is sign of the overall goodness of us. Perhaps a small percentage, at best.

As for rationalization, what else could I discuss? LOL It's all rationalization at some level.

I don't think a small percentage of good is in all mankind. I think there is a great abundance for love and kindness, sometimes even the cruelest, coldest heart can turn and surprise you.
But alas we are at a draw.

I agree, sort of. A small percentage of good isn't in all mankind. You can find it in even a smaller percentage.

The Art Instruction School said my Tippy the Turtle was awful - so I guess we can't even draw.
