Well I have heard that you take the race of the Father becasue of the sperm or something like that. But maybe it's better to not mix races you know. So thered be no confusion!!!!!!!!!!Then your kid wont have to worry about who/what he/she is

To some extent everyone has to worry about what they are...even if race is not an issue. I am not just going to dump my soul mate bc he is white...lol.

Did you know that in many countries like England, Whales, Ireland, Scotland, and Canada they do not put race on birth certificates?

I don't know about new birth certificates, but it varies by state. And I'm mixed (black mom, white dad) and was born in Colorado and my birth certificate doesn't say what race I am or what either of my parents is. And just like some of the other posts on here, in different states you are whatever one or the other of your parents is. Like if I remember correctly, when we lived in Texas and registered for school, my brother and I were "black" because my mom is black, but in Tennessee when we registered for school we were "white" because my dad is white. As a mixed kid though, I am really glad that you don't want to make your kids feel like they are one or the other and I really hope you fight hard against filling out that "other" block.:)

P.S. I know this thread started a long time ago but it popped up while I was doing a search on birth certificates for something else.

I am a BW and my husband is a WM. We have two beautiful daughters with a son on the way and I am from Alabama. I was offended that my children didn't get to have both races on their birth certificates b/c it made my husband feel insignificant. We asked why they couldnt put both races on the certificate and it got to the point where noone wanted to say why really. Finaly after my room was filled with people trying to passify me I was told that my race was the dominate one even though my children both were the exact same shade as their father when they were born. I WAS stared at alot because I was dark skinned carrying a baby that looked white. I was the only black women to give birth during my stay at the hospital yet my baby was almost given to two white parents. It saddens me that we havent evolved further than we need to due to the rise of interracial children but we will definately see if our son can have both races this time aroung b/c its important to my husband.

Some of you people are just brain dead. I WAS TRYING TO GET FEEDBACK FROM SOMEONE WHO HAD A CHILD RECENTLY OR HAS KNOWLEDGE OF HOW THINGS ARE DONE THESE DAYS...NOT HOW THEY WERE DONE 50 DAMN YEARS AGO. BTW, suggesting for me to ask the President is just ignorant...when you get his phone number let me know...THEN I'LL GIVE HIM A CALL. But like I said...he has nothing to do with this...so stop trying to use this thread as a way to discuss your political views people!
Obama's birth certificate surfaced only a few years ago, so his is fairly recent.

I live in Alabama and have 2 biracial children. The hospital that delivered my children determined the race according to my the fathers race. I have since learned that when naming the child you should bring this up and make your feelings known.

Think about it: a child born with a father out of the picture (for whatever reason) would be considered the race of the mother. End of discussion.

Maybe some people once in a while should think about what they are doing when they jump in bed, Or the back seat of a car or behind a dumpster in an alley. Birth control is free courtesy of the American tax payer, It's money well spent, Try using it sometimes.
