I'm not a big horse fan, so perhaps I have more of an open mind towards it. I don't see much difference between horses and any other cattle or hunted animal we're good with eating.

Sure, I'd be upset if something labeled as beef turned out not to be. But I'd probably try horse tenderloin if presented with the opportunity.

But I don't quite get it - are horses cheaper than steer? Is there financial gain to use horse meat over bovine meat? Pound per pound, I would think that a steer would produce more meat as well.
In Europe it would appear to be so....
"Rising beef prices and a public preference for cheap food were contributory factors leading to the horsemeat scandal, food industry experts say.

Beef and veal prices have risen by more than 45% across Europe over the past five years, according to the European Commission, while the global auction price for beef has topped $5,300 (3,500) a tonne.

Horsemeat, by contrast, currently costs about $1,200 a tonne."

Curious though that donkey meat is also commonly used at Burger King and that the correlation to the rise in autism- particularly Assburgers- in Europe has been well documented in this post.

Hey Reebs, how are ya?
I think the worms were mainly meant to boost the Vitamin W in our diet, which we are usually lacking in our daily intake of nutrition..

And according to Taco Bells LAST PR fiasco, their taco meat is 88 percent pure beef......

Twelve percent leevz "alot" of room for 'other' stuff.

Still luv me some Taco Bell, though. I'm there a couple of times per month. Ain't skeered of horse meat. I've worked in restaurant kitchens and seen what goes on back there. Lots of things to be concerned about, but horse meat is not one of them.

both species.
W/o dogs and horses the human race would not
be the "dominate" animal on earth.
They have protected us, helped us hunt, travel,
haul supplies, herd our animals, farm our crops,
transport food and medications.
Their help has been invaluable in our development.
We should treat them accordingly.
Hey, if dog was good enough for Obama to eat, it's good enough for you.

Congress lifts ban on horse slaughter:

Say what you want... you get hungry enough, you'll eat out of garbage cans and would consider horse meat a delicacy.

I agree w/that.
I really don't understand why it's such
a big deal in Europe. Considering horse
meat is accepted there. At least it is
in most European countries.
I think America has an aversion to it b/c
we see horses differently. I imagine it goes
back to the "cowboy" days.
Personally I don't like horses being slaughtered
for any reason. To me eating horse is akin to
eating dog and cat.
The reason is that horse meat is terrible. It's a very strong, gamey smell and taste which is also like shoe leather. I've eaten it only once, and had a hard time because of the flavor. Also, I would assume a horse would make expensive steak, unless they were raised with the intent for consumption. But to be clear,

I would have nothing against eating horse ever since our neigbor's SOB horse kicked me.

You're revealing the republican plan if they could ever possibly win (actually win) the presidency again. You know they haven't honestly won an election since GH Bush? They may never win again!

Actually, it is the Democrat plan and we may well see it int he next 2 years after this country implodes from Obama's policies.
