Question,

When was you last at a County Fair?

I went last night, love fairs, carinavels and festivals..

I seen a 5 legged goat and a horse named Sampson.

Sampson is the worlds 3rd largest horse on record, he is a 9 yr old Belgain.

I've never seen a horse this size and I've been around horses my whole life. He eats 150pds of food a day and drinks 25 gallons of water a day.

I was talking with the owner and he said he bought him from an Amish farm as a 4 yr old and he was huge then. So I ask was he given growth hormones and the guy said no. Said Cornell University did a study on him and he is kind of a freak of nature and only one in a million horses are born like Sampson.

He was impressive.....

That sounds like one heck of a house you saw OC but i would hate to have that feed bill for one animal, but would be amazing to see a house that big

You know I have seen and been around some of these gentle giants, like Clydesdales, Belgains, Shires and others but NEVER in all my horse yrs have I ever seen a horse this big..

My jaw hit the ground when i walked behind that curtain..

The feed bill or mucking up after it..that would be a wheelbarrow full at a time...:)

Ok, Horsin' Rockers ... guess what day it is?! Mike,Mike,Mike,Mike,Mike (does that help?)

I've brought a pic-a-nic basket full of chicken salad sandwiches on toasted multi-grain bread. Who's tending bar around here now?

Hope you don't mind me horsin' around. The Belgian Beast ... I've seen 'em in Amish fields, at county fairs, and State Fair. Yep, they go big! Random gene expression is part of that, of course.

Got curious, so did the haulin' for OC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgian_horse

The Belgian Heavy Draft horse stands between 16.2 and 17 hands (66 and 68 inches, 168 and 173 cm).[2] On average the Belgian grows to weigh slightly over 900 kilograms (2,000 pounds). Most American Belgians are a light chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. The head is relatively small and well-shaped.[2] American Belgians in North American are not as large as the European Brabant but is of a similar build.[2]

Currently, the world's tallest Belgian Draft is Radar, a gelding foaled in 1998 in Iowa. He stands at 19.3½ hands (2.02 metres) at the withers, and weighs over 2,400 pounds (1,100 kg).[3]

>>>>> The world's largest horse was a Belgian Draft named Brooklyn Supreme, who weighed 3,200 lb (1,500 kg) and stood at 19.2 hands (1.98 m).[4][5]

Historically, it is possible the Belgian may have had ancestors who were destriers in the Middle Ages, although there is no independent evidence to support this claim. The foundation stock for the Belgian was originally known as the Brabant. Other names for essentially the same breed include the Cheval de trait Belge, Brabançon, and Belgisch Trekpaard.[9] Until the 1940s, the Belgian and the Brabant were essentially the same breed. Following World War II, the Brabant in Europe was selectively bred to be thicker bodied and heavier, while in the United States the Belgian was bred to be somewhat taller and lighter bodied.[9] The main use was as a farm horse. Closely related breeds include the Trait du Nord and Nederlands Trekpaard.[9]

In 1887, the American Association of Importers and Breeders of Belgian Draft Horses was founded in Wabash, Indiana to register and keep track of all Belgian Draft Horses.[10] Today, the Belgian is the most numerous breed of draft horse in the United States.[11]

Importation of Belgians to the USA ended in bulk after the beginning of the Second World War with Erwin F. Dygert transporting the last Belgians out of Europe as the war was beginning.[dubious – discuss][12]

Flemish is Dutch Belgium in historical contexts:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clydesdale_horse

The breed was developed from Flemish stallions imported to Scotland and crossed with local mares. The first recorded use of the name "Clydesdale" for the breed was in 1826, and by 1830 a system of hiring stallions had begun that resulted in the spread of Clydesdale horses throughout Scotland and into northern England.
