And they're good at keeping it from their parents. How are parents supposed to know what their children are doing on Facebook, or on any site on the internet? It's a tragic occurrence, but right away everyone points a finger at the parents. My condolences to the girl's family.

Not absurd for a child to be curious about sex at that age. But when our children are capable of murder at 14? Oh my god!

What is with parents who imprison their children and stop all contact with the outside world?

Or did you have another way of dominating your kids?

Let's get down to brass tacks here - why is a 13-year-old going on a date in the first place?

Yeah, so how's that whole control-freak working out for you, sport? I have kids too. If kids want to sneak in an encounter, they will. Kids are resourcful, but I agree with a previous poster - what could possibly be going through a 14-year-old kid's head to take another life. Sick little fuck.

I check both my boys' facebooks daily to keep tabs on them, but I agree with JM_Brazil, if they are determined to do something, theyre going to do it. They will find a way. You cant watch them 24/7. You can only educate them on the dangers of the internet and such and hope they make the right decisions. Sad situation for this family.

I am not in anyway saying that it can't happen. I understand fully children can be resourceful for sure. Heck I know what I was doing and getting away with at that age. I am simply saying, JM_Brazil, posed the question "How are parents supposed to know what their children are doing on Facebook, or on any site on the internet?" I gave an answer as to my experience and how I know what my children are up to.

JM_Brazil, how is it that having access to my children's online accounts makes it a control-freak issue? How old are your children?

U cant control everything that do ur child (even a baby) A baby u cound watch every second, but a teenager girl. Its parent responsibility to protect their chldren nd look after where they goes nd what they do.It's sad becouse I look to those facebook profiles nd I see 7-12years old children on there!!! while it is a social website for adults! Children might be outside, playing nd having fun time with their real friends not on facebook! This storry is really sad nd I hope that all bad ppl will be gone!
BTW. The girl is missing from 13.Jan! Please support, if u see anything, please call 112

There are privacy issues. Kids do need some privacy, and if they know or even suspect that you have access to an on-line account, they'll be very selective of what they post there. They'll use other means to communicate private issues. I have one 17 year-old son (who knows all) and I must add there have been many challenges. But kids are resourceful. Remember that age? Barns, woods, cars, more woods, the barn again... how many times did you get caught 'meeting' your girlfriend (or equivalent)?

Bottom line is there could be quite a bit that you don't know about your children. You can't always blame parents for a horrendous act a child or teenager may carry out.

The girl was telling that she is sleeping at her friend. Noone let her to go to the date. big tragedy. But life makes children uncontolable.
School life is hard, parents always working long hours.. Internet, tv, violence, sex that is what rise our children.

Well my mom respects my privacy and trusts me enough not to do that. But, if she wants to look at my Facebook, phone, or whatever else, I'm going to let her.
