I help my cousin do his house. It takes the two of us about three weeks to get it done. On the weekends he dresses up as Santa and hands out candy canes while I dress as Krampus and scare them. His two teenagers dress up as Mary and Joseph and get their friends to dress as the Three Magi. It is a lot of fun.

It is the only joy I find when I'm back in the city for the Holidays. If it was my house it probably not be so much fun, but it being at someone else house I get to join in the fun and not have to worry about the headaches. Plus I'm usually back out of town when it is time to help him take it down.

We never put them up anymore, but love to drive around and see what other people put up. And I try to be a good girl so Krampus leaves me alone! LOL (he was in an episode of Grimm which aired on Friday the 13th, 2013)

Extreme Christmas Lights
When I was in Gatlinburg the 1st of this month the Christmas Store had blue lights in front that seemed to drip from the tree they were hanging on
I went in to get a couple sets and they said they didn't stock them-didn't even know what I was talking about.
My wife just retuned from there and stopped by to see if they'd gotten any.
They had them: A string of 9 lights was $119.00 - guess how many sets she bought for me? Yep! she's a 'conservative shopper'. Unless they're having a sale on the sale she's not buying.

Don't get me wrong I do love Christmas with the lights and trees. Just last weekend I saw the nicest house with lights. Simple yet nice and in multi color. Never was a fan of multi colored lights till I saw that house then I thought hey that's NICE!

I don't like the houses you see on youtube and the news all the time that look like laser light shows at the planetarium. They are neat but not Christmas like at all.

I don't have the inclination to put so many lights up, lol. I remember when I was a kid, most people didn't put lights up outside. My mother typically put electric candles at all of the windows. The candles were the vintage creamy white plastic, with orange bulbs. We always had a real tree decorated with big vintage colored lights, shiny red and green glass bulbs and silver tinsel with a big star on top. It was the most beautiful tree ever. Simple decorations perhaps, but the colors are still so vivid in my mind. Simple decorating in those days but very memorable.

We have a tall tree outside that my hubby and I strung white lights on. We also put lights on a few other shrubs. My favorite is the twinkling stars we put up at two entrances. Nothing real fancy, but it's still pretty. I know a few people who are satisfied with just a front door wreathe and there's nothing wrong with that, either. There is a house across town that displays thousands of lights. Each year, the owners keep adding more. It's amazing to look at. I wonder how much it costs, but LEDs are a lot cheaper and last really long, although I think the owners use the regular lights in different sizes, shapes and colors. It looks fabulous. They also put up toy soldiers, Santa, his sled and reindeer, snowmen, toys, bears and more! Anyway, if they ever decide to stop putting up all of those lights and displays, a lot of people are going to be disappointed. I know I will. It's become a tradition for many to drive by that house every year, and they always seem to have something new and different. The one thing I haven't seen yet are the synchronized lights..

One of the things I LOVE about Christmas is ..
how everywhere is suddenly lit up, and it's amazing and
entertaining to witness all the creative ideas different folks have..

Sometimes these nights before Christmas, I bring the
Dog out late, we drive around, park here and there
and just admire these beautiful Christmas scenes,

I hop in to 'open 24 hrs' store and buy one treat for
Myself and one doggie treat, she sits beside me in the front
Seat and we share!

She seems very content, one thing I'd love to know though>
What SHE thinks of all these newly arrived shining lights..
And how they appear to HER:)
