It surely doesn't help when college kids roll their windows down and yell out "Roll call". Also, the KKK doesn't help either....

And right there, you have an example of the problem. "Yankees"? Always meant as a derogatory putdown, when we are all Americans. Yes, that's right-the South lost the war to keep fellow humans in slavery so knock off the divisionist thinking, take down and throw away your rebel flags, and join the rest of us in the 21st century!

Well, the weather might be a factor in folks retiring down south.... Sheesh, Cletus...

I tease because I have many good friends from down south. Whereas patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel, southern patriotism is the first refuge of a redneck peckerwood. If your pride is based on losing a war to enslave human beings, you might be a redneck peckerwood.

Much of that reputation was earned.

How many times can you hear "The south will
rise again" b/f believing that the southern
states still don't accept the war is long over.

yes slavery is wrong no matter who's doing it but the blacks weren't exactly treated well in the north either during that time and especially in New York ,taking in mind that southern plantation owners were starting to pay slaves to the point slavery would have finished sooner or later..
Now take your American revolution and the so called independence from us that was near enough a civil war when you think about it and don't forget your so called revolution from the tyranny of Britain was a bit of a farce considering your commander in chief Washington kept slaves.,so tyranny and blood on his hands..
Quote me if I 'm wrong but wasn't the word Yankee given to all colonists by the. native Americans during and before the French Indian War..
Isn't the rebel flag just the battle flag of the south?

The rebel flag is also a great reminder of the good old days of lynchings and cross-burnings.

LMFAO! Yeah right, so they've been saying for like 200 years. At what point do they realize that was then and this is now, they need to grow up and get over it-and come join the rest of us in being Americans!

To be fair, many literary greats came from the South, including:
William Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Tennessee Williams, Richard Wright, Thomas Wolfe, and perhaps the greatest artist of them all - Huckleberry Hound.

Assuming things make an assoutta u in front of me.

Southerners know the war ended they taught us that at the school house up in town...lol. The pride doesn't stem from the war silly. It's no different than the pride u have for your hometown.

I do believe Yankee was a term given to All colonists
long b/f the civil war.

Go anywhere in the south and see how many men are wearing camouflauge and are NOT going hunting.

We deserve whatever ridicule we get.

It's simple logistics. "Down South"...."Up North".

They get a bad rap merely because how people label them via map location.

Actually, most have. There's still a few thousand (estimated) folks down south who wake up in a cold sweat, screaming: "HOW DID WE LOSE THAT WAR OF NORTHERN AGGRESSION???!!!! OMG- I HAVE TO GET UP IN 2 HOURS TO PICK MY OWN DAM COTTON!!!!!" But, it's not the big deal it used to be when they were installing separate drinking fountains all over the place. I think MTV made everybody equal.

The Us against Them attitudev is pretty well expected.

When America acquired the "Louisiana land purchase'
and sent troops to New Orleans to stop the British
from hitting N.O and moving up the Mississippi the
residents of N.O said f@ck it.

They told Jackson that they were 'French' and
wouldn't fight the British.(they didn't see them-
selves as Americans) Jackson told them simply
"You fight w/us against the British or I'll burn
this city to the ground and leave nothing for the
British" lol He was such a badass:)

Of course they ended up fighting w/the army.
