I'd buy a small island and declare independence from the US. I would then declare war on the US but surrender before they bombed me, that way I could get foreign aid from the US government.

Not that I've thought about this or anything.

The only problem is that liberals would see what a nice place you have and how prosperous you are, then they would illegally immigrate in and ruin the place with their bad habits and evil policy.

I would invest all of it and not touch it for 20-25 more years. Then, after 20-25 years, I would retire, travel, spend some of it, and give some too charity. That's already my plan.

Too bad a million dollars isn't worth what it was back then. Today, it's probably the equivalent to what 50k or 75k was worth back then.

You're not broke, but you're not a million dollars 1946, rich, which is when It's a Wonderful Life was released. A million dollars in 1945 would is the equivalent to over 12,000,000 today. That's why back then a millionaire was REALLY something.

Nowadays, even if you have 1,000,000 by the time you retire, you aren't going to be living the high life ... not starving ... not poor, but you aren't living large, either. You aren't flying first class, for example, unless you are stupid. That's just the truth.

1,000,000 would provide about 50-55k annual in retirement income. By the time I retire in 20-25 years, 50-55k in annual retirement income will be probably be worth about 30k-35 a year today.

Well first of all I get financial help so I could invest it, and make sure it grows and I never run out. As far as what would I spend it on, travel and adventures and not just material things! I would purchase a house, but not some big mansion a place that's big enough for me and with maybe a couple of guest rooms, like a standard 3-br 2-ba place in a beautiful location, but not sure where; on a mountain in the forest (which would be pretty seasonal as far as getting out and doing things) or at the edge of the central Oregon high desert, overlooking the sagebrush and white tailed deer and antelope (though admittedly those are much harder to find these days). And then more international travel! Always wanted to see Australia, and Uluru.
