Okay so, I'm going to share an experience from living in NYC. One day, my family and I were just walking around, checking out some stores on broadway @ 7th ave(times square), and there were so many tourists blocking the sidewalk that we had to walk into the street to get past. What tourists don't understand is that people do actually work in that super-cool colorful building you are staring at, and you block their way. So get out of their way, and as a tip, New Yorkers never say excuse me if you are in their way. Don't take it as being rude, they are just trying to get somewheres.

Do other major cities/tourist destinations have the same problem? Are you one of those pesky tourists? Comment!

Most all of them do, but then so does our own little neighborhoods.
Granted the tourist will do it more than your average folk, but people are dumb like that most anywhere you go, if you know what I'm saying.

**trying to remember if I ever did that,... hmnmm

I'm not the only one who notices! Friends from my ex-work still tell me about tourists in Manhattan, specifically times square and around WTC. They not only hold up traffic above ground, but in the subway station when they stand right in the middle holding up a huge map of NYC subway, and they cause a jam.

Funny you should ask.
I live in the Hamptons (long Island, New York)....we experience the same type of rudeness..... City-folk coming out to our areas, standing on sidewalks eating their ice cream, pizza, croissants, etc.... Don't these city folk realize that we live and work there? When we say "excuse me", because we are polite, please don't look at us like we have three heads or give us a dirty look. Also, when city folk are driving on our streets they think nothing of just stopping their car, in the middle of the road, and start chatting with someone that they know. Can you at least pull over to the side so traffic can pass?....and also, those funny white lines in parking lots, they are there to show you WHERE to park your car, don't park ON THEM, park between them. Has anyone else experienced this?

I agree that some tourists can be thoughtless because, hey, it's all about them and their vacation! But tourism brings alot of $$$ to 'the big city'!

Yea...but it ruins other people's day because the tourists make them late for work. I remember this one time I was rushing to get into manhattan on a morning train, and these tourists kept asking me for help to get to Times Square-42nd street from where we were in queens, and I didn't want to be bothered...but they kept on talking, and the train came and I got on, left em in the dust...they were supposed to take IRT Flushing line, I knew that, but I wasn't in the mood.

I totally know what you mean. Nothing worse than tourists from NYC coming in for the summer and getting all up in your shit. I finally gave up on it, moved away and I just rent out the house now.

But there's nothing more annoying than the typical American tourist visiting EU/UK. A couple of months ago a group of them stopped me on the street in Liverpool and asked me where they could find the Beatles.

I was in NYC in the summer of 2004. I'm from Chicago, so tall buildings don't WOW me so much. There were about 6 of us that flew in for the weekend, and 1 girl knew a guy that lived there, so he showed us around and we didn't have to bother anyone for directions. I get what you mean about leaving them in the dust...on certain days I might have done the same thing!
