It's not just the Executive Branch of the federal government that may be impeached.

Federal judges including Supreme Court justices have been investigated for impeachment.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment_inve...

For state officials, the prior reference

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment_in_t...

describes that an impeachment proceeding is dependent upon a state's constitution.

So, the folks here who wanted to impeach Obama minutes after his election in '08 were, well, wrong about that.
The Houston Chronicle is a fairly reliable source:

http://news.yahoo.com/ted-cruzs-hometown-news...

or -- "where's Kay Bailey Hutchinson when we really need her!?"

and working in the U.S. House of Representatives causes meltdowns in the House support staff. Truly. There's no denying ... all that time among the wingnuts!

How's that possible Blue, you been watching Hannity again?
Let's not put ANY merit on analysis by Standard & Poor to be consistent with the zanyrights. Got it!

http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/costs-go...

The 16-day government shutdown is over, but the country has taken at least a $24 billion hit along the way.
The financial ratings agency Standard & Poor's said Wednesday the shutdown "to date has taken $24 billion out of the economy," equaling $1.5 billion dollars a day and "shaved at least 0.6 percent off annualized fourth-quarter 2013 GDP growth."

**** These estimates are for the overall economy, taking into account not just federal wages and productivity, but all the ripple effects and costs as well.****

AND, contrary to teapublican belief, it is an action rather than a conclusion. It's like an indictment. People here and elsewhere on the internet wanted, for example, to "impeach" Obama moments after he won in November of '08. Impeach for what doesn't really matter because they so totally misunderstood the word. Suffice it to say, it doesn't have the Banana Republicam denotations they like to think it does!

Yes, kind of like a couple of Democrats here on Offbeat that still refuse to believe that Slick Willy was impeached.

Its more like-

Republicans look to Boehner,
Boehner looks to Ted Cruz,
Cruz looks to the Tea Party,
the Tea Party looks to constituents,
the constituents look to God,
and God looks to Republicans and says,'Don't look at me, Ted Cruz and the Tea
Party created this mess.

Surely God knows that Ted Cruz is not in the House, which passed the bill that caused Democrats to shut down the government???

So it was a democrat that held a 21 hr filibuster to close the govt?

It was the democrats standing outside the capitol with their supporters yelling "cut it or shut it"?

It was a democrat who got on national tv and declared she was "giddy" over the shut down?

The House can pass any kind of spending bill they like...with or without Obamacare.

But that is only ONE leg of a three legged stool.

In order for the bill to land on the Presidents desk it has to be sent to the Senate for Approval.

3 Times the Republican house sent a bill that was not acceptable to the Senate and Three times the Senate rightfully sent it back for revisions.

The reason for this is simple. If all Republican controlled House had to do was pass bills defunding programs they don't like and approving programs they like, the government would be held hostage to their whims.

They could, for example, pass a spending bill that eliminates funding for foodstamps, welfare, ornstudent loans. Those are popular targets of Republicans

But it would have to pass the Senate and then it would have to be signed by the President.

Republicans were trying to use the debt ceiling as a tool to get what they couldn't get through regular channels. They knew they couldn't defund Obamacare with a Democratic controlled Senate and a President with a veto pen.

So they took the only course available to them. Force a fight on the debt ceiling like last time and hope Obama would blink.

Unfortunately for Republicans ...he didn't

Ted Cruz' speech wasn't a filibuster. You might want to read some reliable sources and stop listening to what the government-closing Democrats tell you to believe.

How's it going Lylah?

The House did it's job and passed a bill. Democrats had a hissy fit and shut down the gooberment because it did not contain what they wanted.

BS Mountain? Is that located in Democrat territory somewhere? Sounds like it might be a fun place to take a vacation.

It was political grand-standing on Cruz's part. He started the speech knowing that there would still be a vote, as did every American that doesn't get their news from Harry Reid. LoL.

Odd, I replied to this. Try again. He isn't being honest. He's being what's called stupid smart. It's very common out of Republicans and this war on Obama.

Certainly you can end a program. Simply build a coalition and garner the votes needed.

What you ought not be able to do is hold your breath and threaten to ruin an economy until you get your way.

What if Obama demanded a 15% tax hike on millionaires and an end to birth certificate questions before he agreed to a debt limit hike? The Tea Party would feel ill used I'm sure.

The House knew any CR that defunded the ACA would get the boot. Every poll shows who's being blamed for the shutdown. And it's not the Democrats.

Drag is as delusional as Cruz but, can't shut down a government. He's probably closed a few bars though....
