Was he born in a military hospital?
Unfortunately no, although his father was military.

And so it begins, my step-son is trying to get health insurance, the problem is that he was born in Germany to American parents. His birth certificate and passport were destroyed when hurricane Sandy hit and the MA exchanges won't take his NY drivers license as ID due to new rules enacted by Obamacare.
I'm trying to help him out but so far the best advice that I can come up with is to change his name to Jorge Hernandez and claim to be Mexican and here illegally.
so send off for a replacement. One has to have a certified copy to get a passport so what's the big deal? Sheesh.

The republicans can forget about the presidency forever--until they get someone besides the same old re-hash to run.

I think there are a lot of people who would like to see a fresh new face with some new ideas--REGARDLESS of which party that person belongs to.

Not that easy. A letter has to be sent to the town where he was born, in German which neither of us speak, requesting the proper forms to get the replacement. The forms then have to be filled out and sent back, again in German. The process is said to take months to do legally, when an illegal Mexican can get health insurance, a welfare check and a drivers license within hours of crossing the border.

Ugh sublime same tired argument as yesterday..ill try this again for u. The senate and the house passed ahc. There is difference between passing a good bill and making up a ridiculous one and passing it knowing the other side will not pass it and offer no new compromise to get that bill passed. That is simply a waste of time. And the majority of Americans see this. They wanted it their way or no way and that is not how the legislative branch works. As we have all been witness to these last few weeks. Get over it already.

I've noticed that about them myself. LOL
Yew Hunglo and not being able to speak English is not a problem for them - one speaks for all.
I've been around them enough to know, while the one that speaks English is talking to you they're all talking to him saying 'who knows what'. I also learned to advise them to discuss it and I would speak to their representative, that was after I would separate one but he'd have to keep going back and forth talking to the others.

In the imaginary world you live in, can't you pay that illegal Mexican to get this taken care of? Surely that illegal is smarter and more resourceful than you.

BTW, it sounds like your step-son is illegal. Kinda...undocumented...

I would think there's some record of his birth with the military--for a dependent ID card and such. I'm not doubting your efforts, but it does seem that there is some other recourse....

I did notice that the Federal workers are supposed to see back pay within a week.

Not bad, 2 1/2 weeks paid vacation and they're not even essential personnel.

This is what we are getting from the State of MA. US State Dept. and the German Embassy. If there is an easier way I would love to find it.

Who gets to decide what’s a good bill and what’s a ridiculous bill? Seems to me your entire argument is predicated on your subjective belief of what is good and what is ridiculous. Don’t you see this?

Let me guess Lylah, the good bill is the bill YOU LIKED and the ridiculous bill is the bill YOU DIDN’T LIKE? It’s just amazing how that works!!!! Everything that Lylah likes is obviously good and everything she doesn’t like is obviously ridiculous, duh, and if you have a difference of opinion with Lylah, well, you are just ridiculous and making a tired argument. Don’t you know Lylah is the arbiter of what is good and ridiculous, duh?

The republicans wanted to delay the mandate on individuals for one year, just like Obama did for businesses. They also wanted to get rid of a 3.5% tax on medical devices (because you know taxing medical devices somehow makes healthcare more affordable … it’s simply another way that Obamacare raised healthcare prices on everyone else so that bottom feeders can get insurance). They also wanted to require federal workers and members of Congress to have to buy their insurance on the exchanges that the members of Congress created and supposedly are so wonderful … the same exchanges they are imposing on average Americans. How is it unfair to make them use these same exchanges they are making average Americans use?

And guess what, the republicans were willing to negotiate over these things. For you to say that it was their way or the highway is an outright lie. It was Obama who was saying we won’t negotiate. Do you want me to post links?

And guess what, there was room to negotiate. Guess what the democrats wanted … they wanted to get rid of a tax on the healthcare plans of unions, to benefit their union cronies.

Obama already delayed the mandate for businesses for one year. Why do the democrats get to unilaterally decide what aspects of the law are delayed or not, but republicans can’t have any say when it comes to an aspect they want delayed and when they even try, they are being ridiculous. They control half of Congress!

Time will tell who Joe Sixpack ultimately blames for the shutdown. So far, polls show that they blame the CONs. It was all worth it because the CONs got...oh yeah, just about nothing! Well played, CONs!

They'll be whining about that reduced 4Q13 GDP growth figure any minute now!

"The Costs of the Government Shutdown"

"The 16-day government shutdown is over, but the country has taken at least a $24 billion hit along the way.

The financial ratings agency Standard & Poor’s said Wednesday the shutdown “to date has taken $24 billion out of the economy,” equaling $1.5 billion dollars a day and “shaved at least 0.6 percent off annualized fourth-quarter 2013 GDP growth.”

These estimates are for the overall economy, taking into account not just federal wages and productivity, but all the ripple effects and costs as well."

Problem solved, we were trying to go through the state to get health coverage, that was the problem. He solved it like a real American, he got a job and now he can get insurance through his employer.
