Those who donít think the world owes them a living understand that they canít expect to get paid more than the worth of their value to an employer, and that to earn more they have to become worth more. Such people know that a low-paying job can be the best path to a high-paying job. It isnít low pay thatís unfairóminimum wage prevents employers from offering and people from accepting jobs, thatís unfair.

Then again, maybe itís not those who believe in individual responsibility that the supporters of the minimum wage are trying to appeal to.

Maybe it's just a decisive way to make more people depend on government substitutes.

It is efficient for the employer to always pay an employee less than their value. The difference between the marginal retail product of the employees and their wage goes to employers' bottom line.

That is why we have minimum wage laws if an employers could get away with paying you less they would. They would HAVE to to remain competitive.

If an employer is paying an employee less than their value, then it is the employee's responsibility to seek employment elsewhere, where they are paid what they are worth. It is NOT the obligation of the employer to pay them more just because the employee or the government thinks they should be paid more.

If the employee cannot find such a position, then they probably just have an over-inflated sense of their value.

That's especially true these days when Obama is creating new jobs at the glowing-touted rate being claimed (period?).

remember econ 101 you make no sense.
Employers pay what it takes to get employees, if they pay less than other employers they don't get
to employ, it's called the "The law of supply & demand". It's also called; "The free enterprise system".
I'm fully aware government doesn't believe in it but that's because they never had to deal with it,
making careers in politics and having no idea how the country is suppose to work. Just sticking their nose in where ever possible to make things worse on the people that made this country.
What else is government good for at least recently?
Bail out the -big boys- and watch the nation suffer

Yep cause everyone else is increasing pay. Freakin clown. You won't be happy until we're all poor and paying taxes to the Viscount and our wives get raped if we don't.

No action required for the forseeable future. For a federal minimum wage, what's being dallied around in the U.S. Senate is $10.10/hour; and not really being addressed in the U.S. House. Who knows if by 2016, Congress will have some modest increase passed and signed by Obama to tout that they did something (to garner votes).

Any folk gagging about increases in minimum wage should direct your distress to municipalities and states that have already passed these.

After all, it's desirable for government to be local.

Deer Whisperer made some very important points, I think he 'nailed it' when he mentioned government,
(federal that is), they should keep their nose out of states business, they're over stepping their bounds!
A noted observer, I apologize for calling you an imbecile, that wasn't nice. Actually I really enjoyed our little parlay on differences. Isn't it amazing how people see things differently?

I don't understand why people care about where Obama and his family go for vacations and the holiday's?! That's just weird to me! He has the right to go wherever he wants and to have as much fun as we do!

It has to do with who pays for it.

Problem is, we pay for ours, and his vacation. If he footed his whole bill I wouldn't give a hoot where he went.

Nothing like a funeral to bring in family...now, just have to admit to what side of the family you're from...then start takin' down the bed curtains..

"They are not torn down!" cried Scrooge, folding one of his bed-curtains in his arms, "they are not torn down, rings and all. They are here -- I am here -- the shadows of the things that would have been, may be dispelled. They will be! I know they will."

funny that..

Sad or no -- that is a reality for many folks. It's your fault according to a particular mindset and philosophy. That mindset also feels entitled to tell you how to live and what your mistakes are/were if you don't meet their expectations and standards, no matter how they attained their lofty status.
I am speaking for the working poor here.....The true reality is, I work full time.(Not in the fast food field) and am a supervisor. I am better off than my employees. I may or may not qualify for assistance, I have not checked other than the school lunch program. I will tell you this much. I support myself and my kids. I PROUDLY buy meat out of the reduced bin and many other close date and outdated items with my wages. I look at what other people have,(cars, houses, phones ,etc) I am happy that those things make them happy, but, know that I do not need them. Do not bash me because you think I can do better, you have not lived my life. My life is good. All I am saying is that while some people abuse the system.(Yes, I acknowledge that they do, I personally know several people who get all they can.) There are many of us out here busting our butts and working hard ---PROUDLY not using the system.
