I had two shopping experiences today, one at Home Depot, the second at a Publix...

I may start a seperate blog or consumer blog on various stores I shop at, and my experience in each...and no doubt store managers, retailers, will read it...just out of curiosity they will...to see if their store is mentioned...

HOME DEPOT...

3 of us walk in...the greeter, who's job it is to greet, like Yori 'the trainers' job is o train...

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Casually greeted the 1st 2, then fell silent when it was my turn to be greeted...

So I immediatly spun around, like an entertainer or something...and asked "Why did you turn your head when I walked by??'

The womans response was 'I don't know'...

Then i said...'I'm the CEO of Home Depot, and want to know why you turned your head, and failed to greet me, when I walked in?'...

Quickly followed by a 'I'm just kidding, but I'm the nicest one in here, why would you do that?'...

Then the lady said 'I'm sorry'...as i walked away....

I put a humorous spin on it inside the store...cause that's what entertainers do...you get your point across, but in an entertaing way...and in a non hostile way...and I did just that...

One thing I've learned is never take stress home with you...if your bothered by something, deal with it immediatly...confront whomever has caused you stress...

And I don't mean confront in a hostile way...but rather get clarity on the situation...ask 'Why' or 'Did you intend too ect ect?'...

Allow them to 1st explain their behavior...then take it from there...

If you want 'better' you have to demand better...and this is why it usually only happens once with me...after that the greeter realizes I have a personality, emotions, feelings, and that I'm very animated and colorful in how I express things...

After that they warm up to me...

But sometimes it's as if greeters or other public workers can look at you as bein 'souless' until they actually have to interact with you, and you stir their emotions a bit...

2. PUBLIX

I was looking for item 'A'...couldn't find it, so I asked a young city guy 'Excuse me, where's item 'A'?'....

And to my suprise, this young urban fella actually took me around, and led me to item 'A'...instead of just pointing and saying 'It's over there'...

Well I was so impressed that on the way out, I saw them again...and said 'Say, where's your manager?, I want to compliment you infront of the manager'...

So we went to the manager, and I heaped a ton of compliments on this young fella, who then pumped his fist like Tiger Woods, in joy that someone was complimenting him infront of the Manager...

Turns out that was only his 3rd day at the store...

The Manager was happy, I was happy and the new employee was happy...we were all happy together...

Which goes back to what I use to say...class, joy and happiness begots more class, joy and happiness...

And if everyone would raise their standards of public conduct...it would become infectouis...or infectuous...

Like Yori the trainer who trains...
I'm the blog, the blogger, who blogs...

The home depot greeter probably thought "oh,$hit here comes that crazy b**** again" when she saw "time and space" coming and that's why she chose not to greet her specifically.

Glad I'm not a store greeter because if someone confronted me like that I'd give them a nice serving of "go f*** yourself" and end up fired.

To continue with the above...

After I posted this earlier...i called Home Depot and requested to speak to Assistant Manager or Manager...

We spoke, conversation went really good...

And I told them, like it is Yori the trainers job to train......

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

It is the greeters job to greet...
And the Manager agreed...

I told them that a 'Happy shopper tends to spend more'...
And the tone is set by the greeter...

And if the greeter is not going to greet everyone with 100% enthusiasm...than they shouldn't be a greeter...and instead re-assigned...

And the Manager agreed....it was a good, civil conversation...and the Manager thanked me for bringing it to their attention...

Next arena....Office Depot...

I walked into this giant facility full of merchandize...it was dead quiet and still...

So like Rodney Dangerfield in the movie 'Caddie Shack'...I blurted out...

'Why's it so quiet in here? Turn on some music'...

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

And believe it or not they did...or turned the volume up...

Then I browsed a bit, Manager guy comes out to me on the floor and asks 'Can I help you find anything?'...
(they only do that when they're watching you from the sky)...

I said 'Yes, where are items 'A'?

The Manager guy pointed and said 'Over there next to such and such'...

And before I could turn around they were gone...

So when I saw him again...I schooled the guy a bit...and told them...

'Come here...let me tell ya something....you have a store full of merchandize...wouldn't you like to move items?'

He said 'Yes, but no custimors want to buy anything'...

I said 'Wrong, custimors love to shop and buy, but some, most, want to be prodded a bit, showed around...you have 1000's of items here for sale, from computors to cameras ect ect...to new neat gagdets...if your floor people don't take the time to introduce custimors to new or other items, they'll never know they're there'....

And the Manager continued to listen...as I said...

'Walking into a store, all by yourself, can be intimidatin, like walking into someones home...so the first thing you gotta do is make them, the shopper, feel welcome...loosen them up a bit...make them laugh, something...get them in the mood to shop and spend...don't just 'point and go'...go with them, and when they find that item, ask them what else they might need, tell them about sales your having ect ect'...work them a bit...

And by doing so I told him I garunteed his sales would go up by 40% in one month...

And they listened to me...were kind of in awh...cause they've never encountered someone with a Vegas attitude like I have...

To them I probablly came off as some powerful board member who goes around training sales people how to sell...

Anyways...I repeated the above to the cashier also...and by the time we were done, we were talking football...something about her uncle rooting for the 49's to win the game...and they did...

Finally...if you want excellence, you must demand excellence...

And the people who give you excellence, themselves will become exellent and excell...

I've been thinking about giving motivational seminars in the future, aimed at retail, floor, sales personel...

I could really teach these people a thing or two about moving items on the floor...expecially the mid to small sized stores like Office Max or Beals Outlet or JCPenny's...

I may have found my nitch...and maybe could fill arenas, the way Rock Stars use to fill arenas...

Cause people need, and want to be motivated, learn techniques, and I could see Companies flying me around to motivate and train their sales personal...

Bottom line is what people care about, what investors care about...and if you can increase that for them, than your worth gold to them...

But it all starts with Attitude, a postitive attitude and dynamic between custimor and the floor people...the greeters ect ect...

They're the ones who set the tone...

And they must understand how vital their relationship is to the over all success of the company they work for...

In other words they matter...floor people matter...

And with my presentations...they would understand that...

This could be my calling...

I brushed shoulders with a famous movie star before, at the Ramada end...at the Comedy Zone...got their autograph and everything, took photo with them...

They came into our session or class, unexpectedly, and suprised us all...to give us some tips on things...

Well as they were leaving...I was the only one to stand up and say 'Hey, do you mind if I take some photos with you?'...

And they were flattered...everyone else was to shy to say anything...but not me...I jumped right up...

As a result, everyone got their photos taken with John Witherspoon....

In real life, he's a very humble man...he was walking around the Ramada in with no bodyguards, no antaraug...(crowd)...nothing.. .just him in a T-shirt...

Really nice fella in real life...

Yeah, i have heard that is true of Steve Martin....and actually quite shy in person, not totally rare among those in comedy....we occasionally went to Disneyland and Pier 39 in San Fransisco, many years ago and i think that is where he started.....

I worked at walmart for 13 months and customer service is a joke ... They dont encourage thier staff to do better but the exact opposite .. The harder you work the more the other staff hates you ,management misuses you, and you get tired of being told to stay late just to get yelled at to take a 2 hr lunch to keep from overtime .. 2 hr lunch may not sound like a bad thing unless you work overnight so from 1am to 3 am then they will have the nerve to tell you if you don't stay late thts a write up and oh no .40 cent raise for you this year ... Dont get me wrong there are good people at these stores just few a far between . The month i quit 2 male managers and 1 female manager were fired for sleeping with employees only cause the drama from the aftermath came into the store and the kicker to that one ended up as a manager at the next walmart down the road .him being fired was a show ! the 2 girls he was sleeping with were fired a month later so keep supporting walmart if you feel the need . Oh and for you smartasses i quit i did not get fired they offered me anything i want to stay hell they didn even tell the people in my departments i quit they thought i was on vacation and waited a week for me to come back . Why cause i was the one person that was all about my customers and coworkers making sure everyone can in happy and left happy

Minutes ago, I just got off the phone with a manager of Office Depot...

And shared with them my experience of yesterday in their store...

1. walked in, browsed..

2. floor person makes contact with me...then points to where product 'A' is...and walks away...

3. I have discussion with floor person lator on, and tell them that if they want to move product, they need to be more personable with custimors...ect ect ect...

Turns out, after talking to Manager, who really liked me, that's what their suppose to do...

And the Manager said that sales have been low lately, expecially yesterday...

And the Manager told me that my words sounded like they come straight from their manual...I think he wanted to hire me or something cause they liked my zeal...

Manager said he was taking notes, as I spoke, and would pass it on to his employees...

In other words...I was 100% correct...

100% correct....

Stores want to move product...stores don't want to have to phyco manage employees with all sorts of emotional disorders...

Stores want to move product...and anyone who can help them do that is of interest to them, be it enthusiastic, career oriented floor personel, or motivational, seminar type dynamic speakers...

Stores want to move product...cause when products or moved, sold, everyones bottom line goes up...

I really would like to start like a bootcamp type training, for floor personel...

like getting all up in their face and yelling, making them jog at 5 am, and drilling them on the 11 general orders of salemanship, while watching them do push-ups...

And by the time they got done with my academy...those who didn't get washed out, they would go back to their stores with a much better attitude and understanding of their purpose in the entirety of the stores success...

As such, they'd be much more happier at work, the store Managers would be happier, and custimors would buy more...

They would see themselves more like athletes, competing for gold, rather than just part-time entry level employment...

They would get more bounce to the ounce...

More zing to their ping...

And more spin to their zen...

Boot camp for minimum wage jobs. You really are something. Not everyone does well with yelling. Good leaders don't need to yell.

How do you know that any manager is taking notes, were you on Skype???

For the love of all that is holy, learn the difference between your and you're..........

Only those meant for more out of life will get what I'm about to say...

Here we go...

If you think 'minimum wage'...than that's what you'll be your whole life...

It's not about where your at 'now'...it's where you want to end up...

It's an attitude you bring with you to work...

When successful people go to work...they don't think...'Gee, I'm only earning minimum wage'...instead they think 'In 4 years I will own and run this business'....

it all starts with attitude, how you percieve self, and your value to the company you work for...

Minimum wage is not the end all for those who want more...

If you refuse to understand that principle..than i can't help you...
