It's not Walmart, the physical store, I ever had anything against...rather it was the mindset of some of the employees that would or could cause me to have a bad shopping experience...
Sam Walton, initially, didn't become a success by hireing people who in turn gave shoppers a bad or sour shopping experience...
You don't build success like that...
But the stores so big now, that it's self sustaining...so the personal experience of induvisual shoppers, really doesn't matter anymore...
The only thing that matters to a store that big anymore is litigation...
Most who work at the store level at Walmarts are not really career orientated...to them it's a job...a means to an end...
College students or retires or housewives who want extra change...
Some need external incentives to do or to act better...
I don't...
When I'm working some place...regardless of the position or title or level, I always bring cheer and goodwill...and it's infectious...cause by doing so you brighten the moods of others around you, and they in turn go home happier, and brighten others...
I make ordinary people feel extrodinary, regardless of what I'm doing or what my pay is...and have been complimented over it many times over the years...
So it disappointments me when others can't, don't, aren't willing, to do the same...
At home, be whatever you want...mean, grouchy, spiteful ect...
But while working, representing a company, people should leave their sour moods at home...
Their low expectation of others at home...
I really do need to start giving seminars to store chains, store managers...to help them get more out of their employees...more out of life...and as a result their sales would really go up...
Expecially smaller retail outlets like Radio Shack, Office Max and Depot and Beals Outlet...
They hire people who totally lack salemanship...and who miss out on 10's of 1000's of sales per day, simply cause they don't know how to interact with custimors in a positive way...
I really do need to start giving live seminars on this subject...
Or become a consultant to retailers who's sales are low...
The secret to success, at least in retail, is all in how you interact with your custimors, how you make them feel as soon as they enter the store...
You have 3 seconds or less to impact that custimor once they walk inside that store...
And either your going to make them feel like their worth a million dollars right off...or you'll set a tone for low expectation of them...and they will feel it, and as a result won't be enthused about buying anything...
It's an art...
Don't give up your day job...just sayin'...cause you have yet to show a warm & fuzzy...well..you have shown a lot of fuzzy..but..whoa..

ps...I just came back from Walmarts...bought Perdue chix at 97 cents a pound, some carrots for the magicwonderdog and this really fun squeeze garlic stuff...didn't speak to a single person and really didn't require any above and beyond special treatment...I'm good with the whole experience..the purchases I made really didn't require any education from the staff...

Well, you better be glad I didn't work there, or i would have given you a hug and a prize on the way out of the store...

If I were suddenly put in charge of Walmart...

1. Immediatly to go into effect today...all employees minimum wage set at $10.00 an hour...

Top wage for floor personel...$20.00 an hour...

2. College tuition fund assistance for those who are in college, and once out, want to work in the companies marketing, management side...Walmart will pay for up to 70% of your college costs...

3. 40 hour full time weeks would be re implicated...with all the over time in the world you need or want!!

4. All store greeters required to greet all people walking into store...that means all...not just those your bias azz mind think deserve a greeting...all means all...if not, than your fired, canned, let go...or agree to personality theropy training...

5. Every month...there will be a drawing at each store for an all expense paid vacation to Hawii or Jamaica or a cruise ship...each store will do this...

Either based on performance or randomn drawings...give our employees something to look forward to...bring back some excitement...

6. Walmart parking lots will host concerts bi-weekly for local bands to show case their talents...right in our parking lots...full stage, everything...

Walmart would become the center of entertainment...

7. Made in America goods...hell ye...bring it on...
Walmart would be forced to set aside a section of the store for local merchants to sell their goods for all to see, enjoy and purchase...

Walmart would not allow any local vendors or ma and pa stores to fail...bring your items and sell on our shelves...thank you bery much...(bery, is deliberate)....

That's just a few changes I would make to that store if I were incharge...ya hoo...

Or is it ya haa....

This is impt point. If people knew they would be personally greeted upon entering the premises you would absolutely see a very fast lifting of dress standards from the public in Walmart stores.

The only way to beat Walmart and these state conglomerates is to use service and availabilty to the public. you can even have higher prices. The public will pay if they feel the connection.

TWICE I had my shopping cart moved from the aisle when I left it for a few seconds to get some help reaching stuff off a high shelf (I'm little bitty, can't reach). By the time I got back my shopping cart - and all the stuff I had gathered to that point - had been removed by store personnel. It has happened TWICE to me. SO....

I still go to Wal-Mart, but not to buy anything. I grab two carts at a time and fill them slap full of stuff from every department in the store, then abandon both carts in an aisle for them to remove and restock. I wonder if the frozen stuff gets restocked or thrown out? Not that I care.

That probablly means they are watching you from 'the sky'...and suspect your only in there to do misdeeds...

Some Walmart floor personel are wired...they don't look for extra work to do unless told to do so...

And for them to be on you like that, and remove your cart within seconds or minutes of you being away from it, probablly means you were being watched...

The first thing I thought was, someone pulling a practical joke on her....
But for it to happen more than once,(by employees) especially if she is a tiny person; that could be construed as abuse towards a person.

It could be to her benefit to stop by the service desk at the start of her shopping trip and explain to a manager or desk clerk what has happened.
How inconvenient and distressing that experience has been.

Who knows, she might get a personal shopping assistant or some coupons out of the deal?
