reebie wrote: <quoted text> We cant compete, sadly.. My slippery slope thing again... Most Americans base their whole existance on what I can afford,,meaning week to week paycheck... 600 car payment? Ok, My paycheck covers that, they dont see the big picture... I am 100 percent for union. I grew up in and live in a predominately automotive industry driven community. But it has its downfalls as well, because it offers a false security, when things bottom out.. I agree with you re Romney as well, although, I dont think there was aything to choose from this election... Now Reebs runs,,before Mr F. bonks her in the head.......... Oh, your head is safe...Are you sitting down though? Everybody wants to rule the world. why not do it economically? It used to be that a guy could support his family with pretty simple jobs and have a nice life. Now, for millions of people, that man and his wife have to work 2 and 3 jobs a piece to get by. We always had rich people and they've always been greedy as all get out but, not since the plantation days or the Robber Barons of the late 19th century has the disparity of super-rich and poor been so effing wide. The trick has been to get people to vote against their own interests. Like getting them to 'believe' teachers and firemen 'make too much'. "Why, yes, we need to pay them less so I can pay less in taxes and then, I'll have MORE! ME!" Unbelievable!

And Im glad I can take my helmet off, messes my hair up :) Ill have to ponder on this.. ruling the world economically, confuses me a bit, who/what are we giving the power to? Im not an "intelligent" person, but I am smart, wise , and aware. I pay attention to what is going on around me, I dont like what you said re,, being told how to think,, teachers make too much,,and somewhere along the line we believe what we are told..but we do it every day !! and yes, you are right, most often we choose to agree if it benefits our pocketbook,,, I fight against that on any level.. so,in the meantime,, a lot of what you have said, is where survivalist mentality comes from,, ultimately being capable of taking care of "their own" if and when everything else fails....

The union was a very important part of life when I was growing up. When the UMWA started to fail we started seeing the same disasters that the union had saved men from. The Aracoma Alma #1, Sego, Upper Big Branch...all of these mines took the lives of many men over something as simple (and cheap) as a $12 sensor for the mining belt. That was a very bad time for the miners... I was around when Chrysler fell apart.....some 30 years ago...almost devestated our town,,, men committing suicide because they couldnt take care of their families.. people losing everything they had,, darn near overnite... it was frightening....

When a few corporations own most of the business (here and in the world), the politicians fall in line with them. It's a global economy. They truly don't care where the money comes from, as long as it goes to them. It means they don't care about US living the American Dream. As far as they're concerned, we can be the cheap labor. There are a billion people in China who want the American Dream. Hundreds of millions more in other countries. More of them = more dollars for the corporations. They're trying to get us to get by with less services via less taxes and wages ARE NOT going up. Look at the business's here who SCREAM about paying for health care. And look at the people who get chumped into fighting AGAINST their own health care because 'it was Obama's idea...' It's like: "Obama wants to punch YOU in the nose! Cut your nose off to spite him!"

Ok, yep I get that :) thanks.... problem is, we cant do it, because we are already to far into our own hole...

So, why don't you post with your "older" accounts??? I'm sure they are legendary, if only in your own mind. Anyone still posting here from back in the day is "A Topix Legend" in the sense they had paid their "offbeat" dues. Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends.......
