Whatever happened to late Friday night television? From 10 p.m. until 1-6 a.m. watching B-Rated horror movies hosted by an aged decomposing Boris Karloff.

Better yet hosted by the likes of Vampira and Elvira. Narrating those 30's -60's horror films while lying on a sofa working a thigh through the waist high slit in her Morticia dress.

These late night shows were a community service. It kept me inside glued to the TV instead of stealing the 8-track out of your lime green '67 Barracuda or having unsafe sex on top of your hormonal crazed rebellious 15 year old daughter.

Hell EFFING yeah MH... I love that vintage horror, sci-fi, and B-movie stuff too. I even have collections of old. Elvira, and Vampira(way before my time) broadcasts
Check your listings there are still a couple of syndicated shows like you are talking about.
Off-beat Cinema is one and SvenGhoulie is another... SvenGhoulie is exactly what your looking for. Elvira's Movie Macabe is also been put back on the air in some places but they dropped it in my area about 6 months ago...
Were you a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 as well??

My mistake.....Boris Karloff did "Thriller". I remember Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, and a young Jack Nicolson in an early sixties movie, "The Terror". Kids don't know what they are missing. I remember Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) in low budget films considered "mild porn" during the early 70's.

Let me tell you Cassandra Peterson is still SMOKIN' HOT.. If I'm not mistaken The Terror is actually Jack Nicholsons first credited role in a movie.....Have you ever seen Plan 9 from Outerspace with Vampira in it??
Well here you go man I found ya some clips to send you back.

Ohio..... We had Ghoulardi and The Ghoul...."Hey! Overday! "Hiya! Hiya! Hiya!" "Hey! Camera 4!" We would watch Godzilla stomping out downtown Tokyo while The Ghoul piped in Polka music. Blowing up Froggy with firecrackers.

"Schoenling All Night Theatre" with Jerry Beck. He would host the show and pound Schoenling Beer throughout the show. All of us had to sober up at 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Then "Fritz the Night Owl" Perrenbloom.

Wait duh I take that back. Nicholson already worked with Roger Corman in Little shop of Horrors... I can't think Jack Nicholsons first movie was a Roger Corman movie but I can't think which one it is..

The horror movies of the 30's and 40's relied mostly on writing, acting, and directing.
The state of the art visual effects of the 40's - 70's are comical by today's standards.
Blood, guts, and gore have their place.
Return of the Living Dead is extremely comical because of the vivid horrid visual effects.
Plan 9 from Outer Space is a classic because of having the reputation of being the worst film made.

I need to buy a movie theatre.

Does anyone remember THE HAUNTING..
an old 60's b/w movie - dead scary, great atmosphere,
Starred Claire Bloom /Russ Tamblyn (and others)

They did a re make of it in the 90's
With Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta Jones,
despite these good actors,
It wasn't a patch on the original-

I notice that is often the case.

Hope they never get the idea of touching
the movie masterpiece> PSYCHO!

Ha! Psycho has been done so bad nobody noticed. Anthony Perkins even made some horrible sequels to Psycho.

it's not the blood & guts but the hidden evil that lurks inside of our souls waiting to be exposed for my...or..our next victim.

Let's do lunch some time.

Thank goodness for dvd players and Netflix. Nothing good on TV anymore. Yes, I could be spending time doing more important things, and I usually do, but I still like to sit down to watch a few hours of something that may be of interest to me. Be it educational or just plain fun, I remember the old days of television and there was always something fun to watch. Nowadays, forget it. I wish they could put more programs and old shows and movies for the older folks. We spend more time at home then the younger crowd. Now with the younger generation that has replaced the old directors and people who run the TV stations, they either don't know what we older folks really like to watch or they don't care. Bring back the old Chiller theater. It may be crap to the younger generation, but it's fun for us vintage people. Also, mom and I are sick of those reality shows. As for Jerry Springer and Maury Povich; how many episodes of the same thing in day in and day out can people stand. I'll admit that I was first curious about 'Who da baby daddy is', but it's become redundant and worn out. These shows must be doing well though. They're still on the air! I get the history channel; not the pay channel. Just the same, there's not that much to do with history as the title implies. There are tons of great movies they could be airing on the cable stations, but most stink. Once in a while, they'll play something good though. Forget the pay channels. Not worth the money!
