That slate article should have led off with the article with the following expression:
"It is my opinion that:"
Doesn't matter how Senators are elected. The house is pretty safely in republicans hands and will continue to be even after midterms, regardless of whether or not the democrats shut down the government because they can't get their way.
Also, outside of big cities, the midwest is not even close to a bastion for democrats. Once you get outside of the cities, folks lose the "I am not responsible for myself and my own actions" mindset and the "government owes it to me to take care of me" mindset.
The democrats bread and butter are the coasts and large cities with large populations folks who feel the government owes it to them to take care of them.
Dude, you've lost it. What part of Republicans in-fighting do you not understand?

Who cares.

The republicans won the house in 2010, maintained control of it in 2012 in large part due to opposition to Obamacare and the promise to fight Obamacare. They are simply doing what they were elected to do. Now, just because you don't like it or agree with it, doesn't mean this is not true.

Folks who want smaller government, not bigger government, have the right to vote for and elect officials too and these officials have the right to promote policies that reflect the interests of those who voted for them, not your leftist socialist views. You act like this is some huge shook and is patently unfair. The nerve of conservatives not supporting liberal policies. Who do they think they are?

Apparently you just don't like our system of government and think it is unfair that republicans don't roll over and vote in favor of liberal policies that you like.

You don't hear republicans whining about how democrats aren't agreeing to vote to defund Obamacare, do you? Yet, you hear plenty of folks on the left whining about how republicans won't agree to vote to fund it. Why should house republicans care about whining from the left? As if any of you whiny liberals are going to vote republican in the next election cycle, anyway.

Are you going to vote republican next election cycle of they vote to fund it? I think not. Me, I'll probably not vote for any during primaries if they vote to fund it. That's what they were elected to do and why they have control of the house.

Wrong.

My long term thinking is democrats will f' up the country bad enough, drive us into massive debt (and just wait until treasury interest rates rise), and the resulting economic/fiscal realities will be their undoing.

It's not in republicans' best interests to jump in the car with democrats and help them to drive off the cliff.

Yeah, but that's all the republicans' fault. If only they would let the democrats pass legislation adopting Ferrerman's trickle up economics we'd be unstoppable. It works like this:

If you give someone without a car your Toyota Corolla, you magically get back a Lamborghini.

Give someone ten dollars for free so that they go and spend it, and you magically get back $100.

If you pay more for fast food so that someone working at McDonalds could make $25-$30 an hour in salary and benefits (and why wouldn't you, unless you are some sort of a greedy rat bastard), you would magically come out ahead on the deal ... soon you will no longer even be eating fast food and will instead be eating lobster and steak every night in Beverly Hills and flying in a private jet.

A simpleton like you or me just thinks, wait a second that fast food scheme just sounds a lot like inflation ... and I can see why giving more of my money for food so a fast food worker can make more money might be great for the fast food worker, but how the heck do I come out ahead on the deal seeing as now I have less money. That's why you can't think. You need to instead put your faith in magic!

The magical beauty of Ferrerman's trickle up economics is that there are no losers ... everybody wins! It's really not redistribution of wealth at all from everyone in society, including many folks who are not rich, to a small select group of fast food workers, and to the extent there is redistribution, it comes ENTIRELY from the 1%, because as we all know they are the only ones who eat fast food!!! They might only be 1% of society, but they are 100% of the consumers of fast food!

You've probably heard of the Chicago School of Economics
Theory. Well this is the Cook County Community College School of Economics Theory.

Wrong. Your little white-man thinking for long-term doesn't factor in the voting of women and minorities. And that impacts national, and state-wide elections including U.S. Senate, and eventually districts.

That's what I'm talkin''bout!

"
[...]

We’ve lost five senate seats over the course of the last two election cycles and fundamentally we need Republicans, whether they’re running for president, whether they’re in the leadership of the Congress, to stand up against a lot of this asininity. And you finally see it with Ted Cruz. Maybe he’s the one whose gone ‘a bridge too far’ and as we come up against a potential default, potential government shutdown, wise people understand the political consequences for the Republican Party.

Maybe we’ll start seeing our elected leaders stop being intimidated by this nonsense; have the never, have the guts to stand up and say enough is enough. This isn’t what the Republican Party is about. To fight to take conservatism’s good name back from the freak show that’s been running wild for four years."

It's so amusing that Palin tries to stay relevant and revolutionary by vaguely threatening her own party with violence. She may as well be posting on Topix.

I like how you think you speak for all women and what they want and how they vote. As if areas of the country that vote republican have no women ...

Maybe you should tell my wife, my mom, my MIL, and all the wives of my friends down here and back home who voted republican that long-term, they aren't factored in.

I also know a few ex military minorities (one's a black woman, two are Puerto Rican males) who voted republican.

Not all minorities disavow personal responsibility, wanna blame everyone else for their choices in life, demand to be treated special, want the government to care for them, have a sense of entitlement, always ask what can my country do for me, and never ask what can I do for my country.

Actually, I am confused about this and I am not sure what to do, but I will decide this later. As of now, I think I would support defunding Obamacare.
