I refuse to believe that summer is drawing to an end, I still have one more week of vacation coming up!

but I do think that all the gray and darkness here in winter only make the summer that much more precious

it's just like the vacation thing, without it being a break from the routine of work, it would also not be as sweet

I may end up changing my mind, but for today, I feel I may work until I drop (although I certainly WILL leave prison, the environment is too negative)

I am currently in a "forced" retirement.

I had a medical problem with my foot, and didn't make it back to work in time (25 weeks allowed, ran out in mid Feb.)

Doctor had said I could come back to work Feb. 1st but on "light duty" (for two months). The boss and higher plant manager said "NO" to "light duty".

Boss and Plant Manager said wait two months until cleared for regular duty. While waiting for April, the Head Office fired me retroactively back to mid Feb. I heard about it in the last days of March just a few days before I should have been back.

Retired at 58 years old, was planning to take an early retirement at 63. Needed to pay off 4 credit cards, 3 loans (major types), a "ready reserve bank loan" (maxied out), a 401K loan. about half I could have paid off by end of 2014.

Could have then paid off most of the rest by the time I was 63 (except house payment).

I have learned (way too late for me) that a person should take out 20% of their pay and place it into a 401K early in life not 10 % or less. I did only 2% for about 4 years after a divorcee (in early 1990's) when money was very very tight.

I think back to all those cheap stocks my 401K plan could have got in very early 1990's at 20% being paid into the 401K and I almost cry. Now I'm kind of stuck at disalbility insurance at about 40% of pay.

It is. I feel like I'm waiting for death at (now) 59. If I could have made it to 63 with bills paid off, and more money in the 401K, I could have vacations each year that are bigger and much longer (think Europe).
