I did all the hay stacking for my mom. I fed and watered her horses too. So, I dunno.
However, you are correct in that foster care has that problem Ö people just looking for a government check. Another problem is kids getting shuffled around. My wifeís good friend adopted two boys from a mom, who should not have been a mom. They are mixed race too. They are good kids, for the most part and she does a good job. For everyone like that, you probably have another who is not so good.
Iím not advocating foster care, however. Iím advocating state run or overseen orphanages. I went to a biker toy drive for one around Christmas. The kids did a little show and sang for us too. Some adults who were raised there also spoke and they had good things to say about it, much like that article I posted suggested. I bet you those kids will turn out far better than many of the kids in foster care or who grow up in the ghetto.
I think more studies should be done, of course, but if it turns out that kids actually do better in these environments, I would like to think it is something that the left and right could agree upon. Of course no one wants to remove kids from a parent home, but what if the parents can't care for them or themselves and it will give parents a chance to work on themselves and the kids generally turn out better? If so, it seems to me like it would be a much better policy in a most instances. We really should be willing to think outside of the box for ways to break the cycle of poverty. It is a cycle and a vicious one at that.
I'm not saying that there aren't loving caring ppl who take children out of the sysytem and put them on the right path. Of course there is.

I know a lady that adopted a brother and sister out of the sysytem. The mom who was on drugs had the girl drink Drano, she lived but has scars on her throat and at 18 they will start doing surgery on her. The son was beat with a horse whip and has a scar
across his face. Also will undergo surgery.

I told you I have terrible stories about children in the system.

My friend who works with Children Services takes children away from parents all the time but again I think only a small percentage actually thrive...it's sad.

Being a little mixed on my thought about abortion I see the use for such a procedure in the first-maybe in the second trimester. If the health of the mother is an issue or the fetus isn't viable or has a hereditary disease the parents are concerned about. But I don't care for abortion as a means of birth control on demand. There are many other pre-conception means to avoid a pregnancy. The people taking the biggest hit of using the precedure the most are Black women. Do they not know there are ways to PREVENT a pregnanacy? Aren't they aware health departments across the country make available FREE birth control pills? They hand out condoms like candy at halloween. I know many men don't like them but tough. It also helps prevent the spread of social diseases, which are running rampant in some inner-cities. Especially in light of the secrecy in the Black community of those men on the down low or Bi-sexual. Education about and availability of B/C as a means of preventing pregnancies is the best means to drop the abortion rate.

You can't spell Denny without "deny". His type doesn't want them to be paid for until 18 either. He just wants them to be born and then they are on their own.

Here in Ky we have a law,Bonnie's Law. Named for a CPS worker who was murdered during a home visit with a troubled family. They took the kid and fled the state. They were caught a few days later, but her killing highlights the danger when you begin procedures to protect abused/neglected children. With the passage of Bonnie's Law anytime a case worker is threatened or percieves a dangerous situation they can request and recieve armed security, state furnished, for short duration. I do that kind of work on occasion. When the security agency bids the state contract and get it they call me for our region. Usually a 30 day contract(subject to extension depending on the case),I escort the case worker from her car in the morning, monitor the building thru the day. Any time the case worker leaves the building she is escorted to her car. She gives an estimated time duration she will be gone and to where. At the time she is expected back I wait in the parking lot for her to arrive and she is escorted back to the building. I've done this for several contracts over the past 3-4 years and have the greatest admiration for the women. They care very much about helping in danger kids and are afraid of nothing. I consider it MY job to to insure they aren't.....

I have 5 brothers so I can handle my pigtails getting pulled..ha!

I think abortion should be rare. But I still think the choice should be there for those who choose it regardless of how one gets pregnant.

Sometimes birth control doesn't work for woman as they are not strong enough. Condems break, there are a variety of reasons woman get pregnant that has nothing to do with irresponsible sex.

My mom had me when she was 41, yeah, the pill didn't work for her and after she went through the change of life thinking she could no longer have children and at 45 she had my baby brother. So you see it's not as cut and dried as many think it is.....which is the whole point about Choice..

The funding comes from the budget of CPS. As I said, these are a limited time contract with extensions possible. The cost isn't important when you look at the very real possibilities of danger when messing with child custody of some parent whose only income may be the child's state stipend for care.

I read Sublime's post about putting children into state-run institutions (orphanages) and I'm amazed at the hypocrisy of someone who is "against big government" yet thinks government should take peoples children and raise them! What the-????

No welfare, no WIC, no Head Start programs- just snatch the kids and make them wards of the state?????

Government can't get any bigger than when it's small enough to micro-manage people's lives.

How ironic. The "we'll let you womenfolk know what you can do with your bodies" Self-Righteous Right wants to allow abortions under very few circumstances. Then five minutes after birth, that newborn and Mom are on their own financially. Their "save babies and push for the death penalty, for crimes worse that jaywalking" stance is equally ironic. LOL

Its a given the pill isn't an absolute nor are condoms. They are just a percentage based means of prevention. Working more often than not they are better than doing nothing tom prevent an unwanted pregnancy. As I said, first trimester-maybe second in some cases I'm okay with. But to delay termination after that makes you wonder WTF are they thinking? Do they want to terminate or not? I don't know/have experience about or pretend to understand all the circumstances of why or why not abortions are decided on. I just know how I feel about it,others are welcome to their own opinions and its no one else's business to pry. Every case is different on its own merit.

Ironic.... Supporting convicted murderers for life in the name of "social justice" and aborting babies in the name of "reproductive rights".
