Absolutely or at the very least, minimal cost. If someone can't afford the procedure they certainly can't afford to have a baby. There are already almost an half million unwanted children in the system and countless tax payers dollars going to social assistance.

It's the smart thing to do.

Yes. Not only is it cost effective because we still end up paying, if the child isn't wanted but kept, we have other social problems to pay for and future generations.

Definitely pay now.

I have mixed emotions on this issue. I do agree with Victoria, but somehow, it just seems wrong. I know, I know! It was my upbringing!

Not unless they can also sterilize the baby maker at the same time. Too many of them won't take the responsibility of getting knocked up in the first place. No incentive for them to take precautions when others are forced to pay for their mistakes.

You have a point, but fat chance that'll ever happen, IMO.

Sadly, it's smart business. It's cheaper to pay for it now than fund the support down the road. Sort of like what Mitt Romney did at Bain - you know, get rid of the unprofitable bits to save money.

*ahem*

I suspect that was too much of a reach. Apologies. I'm feeling contrary today.

The baby makerS..... didn't you mean both of them??
Taxpayers do have the incentive!! You are going to pay regardless!

Mitt says corporations are people - this is really a great analogy.

I'm sure it's implied. Of course, he would want BOTH parties to be sterilized.

Nope, went back and looked it specifically reads baby maker (singular) and at the same time (of the abortion..) doubtful that the other baby maker would be there.....

Or they could jail women who get unwanted pregnancies. If a person is poor, they have no business having sex. They can learn to control their urges. It is funny that abortion is never a debate in countries that execute for adultery and premarital sex.

Come to think of it, it isn't paying just for the next 18. It might be paying for life, particularly if it is a baby boy raised into a poor environment. Then we have to pay for his murders and forcible rapes.
