The fame of the poets from the hallowed halls of Offbeat is known far and wide.

The masses come from near and far to gawk and read the prose of humor heart and soul.

Yeah but ... there are two schools of thought here, yerGrace.

Firstly:

One is jesting in cloaked garb
to posit an intentional barb.

On the other hand:

It, while expressing a supposed wit
just can't spell worth a sh*t.

I definately think Hoosier Hillbilly should have honorable mention as Offbeat's next best poet!

REMEMBERING CHRISTMASES PAST:

"At Christmas .. I feel a mixture of ALL things..
I sense holiness AND the wholeness of the Christmas season.. to come ...
a blend of the past with the 'now'..

When my parents lived, remembering, starry crisp winter christmas mornings.. roof tops white
in a shimmering frost ..
our breaths caught.. in phantom mists..

I 'see' and 'sense' in a corner of my mind, the feeling ... when Santa had come, somehow recalling, the magic of his 'being in my room'.. the air of mystery he brought .. and scattered around ... moments in time, that twinkled bright
as the morning stars in my childish mind...

He left a gift of a blue patent handbag, I watched it's newness shine in the shadow of a morning moon .. as we walked, in darkness to
early morning Mass.

My young heart beating with love and appreciation
that this magical figure -the ultimate story book figure..- ACTUALLY visited 'me' and reached deep inside his red velvet sack..
withdrawing, as he did, a LITTLE GIRL"S BLUE HANDBAG!
and laying it gently by my bed .. in the still of night.
MAGIC at it's headiest heights!

Now, many years later, in another dimension, honed by wisdom
and fixed in 'time' gives the scene has a unique quality and .. blessedness ...

Thank you to the UNIVERSE.. for times past.

AND .. for allowing me to live long enough to appreciate the beauty of 'TIMES PAST'

It is now framed .. and fixed in my mind..
just like an antique picture..

that I can take out and look at ..

ANY time.. in history..
and... it will always be as fresh and new as it was the
night Santa came,
so very many years ago."

I always VERY much liked and appreciated

'Wild Blue Rose':

very fine poems..

Here's one of hers>

- Melancholy Tear -

"Your departure was made
in the darkness

Alone you left
to find a place
you dreamed of

Your journey certain
your destination unknown

You left me here
and you left alone

I would have gladly
gone with you
rather than
to be left behind

Life isn't life
without you
Even though to the world
I seem fine

I hold in my heart
your dear memory
I hold in my mirror
your face
Lifes goes on
without you Mom

But sometimes
I feel
out of place

Today my heart
laughed sadly
Thinking about you
and things that shine
Your Spirit is free

and you are saved

That does
ease my mind
I know
how you suffered
what you endured
to stay here

So now with
hindsights understanding
I shed another

melancholy tear...."

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

~Pablo Neruda
If You Forget Me.

Beautiful..

****

This one is special..
It's by the (Nobel Prize) winning Irish poet-
Seamus Heaney-
who passed away recently.

- Postscript -

'And some time make the time to drive out west
Into County Clare, along the Flaggy Shore,
In September or October, when the wind
And the light are working off each other

So that the ocean on one side is wild
With foam and glitter, and inland among stones
The surface of a slate-grey lake is lit
By the earthed lightening of flock of swans,
Their feathers roughed and ruffling, white on white,
Their fully-grown headstrong-looking heads
Tucked or cresting or busy underwater.

Useless to think you'll park or capture it
More thoroughly.

You are neither here nor there,

A hurry through which known and strange things pass
As big soft buffetings come at the car sideways
And catch the heart off guard and blow it open '

Now,'i' tried this a while back
getting people to make a rhyme
and most of what 'i' got was flack
'maybe''i' hope it works this time
talking in rhyme gets the point across
just adds some spice and makes the sauce
sweeter and then you add a funny or two
mix it well and give it a toss!
