Most tomatoes are grown hydroponically (in water supplemented with fertilizer and minerals) indoors under artificial sunlight nowadays. FYI.

<quoted text>There was a big, ol' Iowa pig farmer on Colbert the other night talking about his book and his raising of pigs of Russian and Chinese *heritage*. You know Colbert and his jokes- I wish the guy had had more time to talk. The gist of it was that he was a free range pig farmer who used animals with good DNA and fed and treated them with respect to make a tender, juicy meat that is (evidently) nowhere near resembling the crappy pork available to us these days via corporate farming. Is it THAT hard to treat animals with dignity and NOT shoot them full of drugs that would get an athlete suspended from his sport?
I saw that. lol
What I saw tho (besides Corbet acting like
his usual goofy self;) was those cute little
piglets. I'd love to have a dozen of them.
Couldn't kill them tho.

I have no idea Where the tomatoes available at
Krogers came from. But they were terrible. Looked
great tasted like cardboard. lol

Take a look at the little tags on your next trip to the grocery store. Most of the cluster tomatoes are hydroponic, especially in the winter months.

I'm also cautious with produce and seafood from the far East because of the huge amount of radiation Fukushima is still spewing.

I'm with you on not being able to kill the piglets. It would be hard to sub it out too.

Seem's that this is mainly done for profit margins and marketing purposes....any real taste differences would seem to be artificial?.....My main point before was that around me, here in Florida are thousands of acres of tomatoes, strawberries and sweet corn...all grown outside.....Wonder where else, grocery stores get these items domestically, from December to June?.....

Glad our corporations aren't all about profits like those communist countries! We're so good at safety we've got lobbyists and politicians scampering to scale back all those un-necessary health and safety codes. You're right about the greed though...

The best fruits and vegs around here
is a small stand that a couple of ppl
operate from early spring through
mid fall.
They go to other states and pick/harvest
it themselves and transport it back here
for sale.
They go down south for peaches that are
really good. The corn to is the best
you can get.

Except that Islam was created with the sole purpose to unite all Arabs and conquer new lands. This is why it is an aggressive religion.Christianity was used as a tool of aggression as well but peace is in its root.
LMFGDAO...never heard of the Crusades, huh? How about the Holy War? Or the Spanish Inquisition? Christianity has been the most bloody and violent religious faction in human history. How about all the attacks on abortion clinics? Here's a short list of your so-called Christian "peace as a root":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_terror...

The statement attributed to Jesus "I come not to bring peace, but to bring a sword" has been interpreted by some as a call to arms to Christians. Does "an eye for an eye" ring any bells?

An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim.

All Muslims believe that God is one and incomparable and the purpose of existence is to love and serve God.

I'm not defending Islam - but I am defending the truth - and what you're claiming is not the truth. Christianity has a much long list and older history of violence than Islam.

At this point no one can pull us out of the financial mess we're in.We're up for some hard times. You can point fingers all you want. It's not gonna change anything.
"Financial mess?"

Like the Dow at an all time high? New housing starts at a 4-year high? How about the decrease in unemployment and increase in jobs?

Yeah, that's a mess alright...what country do you "wish" you lived in?
