SCHOHARIE, NY- A parolee wearing a devil's mask and an accomplice are accused of burglarizing and damaging a Mormon church in Central Bridge.
Following a lengthy investigation, State Police arrested Justin Pethick, 26, and Roger Graham, 18, both of Central Bridge, for breaking into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Church Street in the early hours of Jan. 27.
Troopers said Pethick wore the devil's mask during the crime to hide his identity.
The two men allegedly forced their way into the church and damaged numerous doors, cabinets and locks in their hunt for items to steal. The value of the damages is approximately $18,000, State Police said. The pair stole about $160 and two backpacks from the Boy Scout Troop 46, which maintains a storage room at the church, trooper said. They also allegedly found around $40 in cash in the church Family History Center.
Graham was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony. Pethick faces charges of third-degree burglary, petit larceny, and possession of marijuana.
Both were arraigned in Schoharie Town Court and sent to the Schoharie County Jail to await future court action.
Pethick faces the additional petit larceny charge for and unrelated incident in which he allegedly stole tobacco and cigarettes while employed for a time at the Apple Food and Grocery on Route 7, troopers said.

It was only a Mormon church. No big deal. It was Gods will.

I'm not personally a fan of the Mormon church myself, but it was still wrong of them. Apparently the church offered the men help to revert from a life of crime. This is a local church too, so it makes it even weirder knowing that people in my area are so poor they have to vandalize a church.

Doing a crime like this has really little to do with them being poor, people like that will steal food or money. The act of vandalizing, either like this or just spray painting on somebody's building is an act of hatred, anger and ignorance. And vandalizing a church, regardless of the denomination well just wow.
