Millionaires are now legally entitled to collect food stamps as long as they have little or no monthly income. Thirty-five states have abolished asset tests for most food-stamp recipients. These and similar "paperwork reduction" reforms advocated by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) are turning the food-stamp program into a magnet for abuses and absurdities.

The Obama administration is far more enthusiastic about boosting food-stamp enrollment than about preventing fraud. Thanks in part to vigorous federally funded campaigns by nonprofit groups, the government's AmericaCorps service program, and other organizations urging people to accept government handouts, the number of food-stamp recipients has soared to 44 million from 26 million in 2007, and costs have more than doubled to $77 billion from $33 billion.

Snap recipients should be required to bring in receipts of purchases acquired from using the card ( receipts should be 'flagged' as
food stamp purchases).
This would stop all the fraud.

The scammers would find a way around that too. Its sad because I see a real need for the program but the govt has only a weak grasp of the fraud. If a conservative tried to control the fraud they would be attacked for hating women and children, and a liberal just wouldn't even think of it. They just print money and ship it out.

It's hard to refute made-up, anecdotal 'evidence' which is why real news networks don't bother, and reichtards devour it with a spoon and waaaaay too much salt.

I think you can strike 'anecdotal'. The context will be the stronger for the correction.

I'm not sure which is more sad, the fact that so many people actually need assistance with food basics, or that there are POS individuals out there scamming the system and hurting everybody in the process. Maybe this is another argument in favor of getting rid of 'cards' and going to biometrics. A thumb print or retina scan required instead of swiping a card. I suppose someone somewhere would find a way around that also.
Let me take you shopping, I will use my card/thumb print/retina scan, then you reimburse me half the cost.

Easy as you please to scam the system.
Nothing new.

PDX Dave - I liked that idea, it's futuristic!

Actually I think they understand it completely but since they're so much better at it than anyone else they condone it.
Why should they bite the hand that feeds them - the tax payer?
The more 'we' give the more they get, isn't that the way modern govt works?
