So when you lose a foot to Diabetes, it'll be the government's fault that nobody told you that hypo-glycemic people should stay away from sugar?
It's a hypocrital statement to say the government has no business in our business - America loves to blame the government for everything. Not doing enough, doing too much, taking that, not taking this, mandating this, not mandating that...
When did America become a country of whiners and complainers?
Where would you get the idea that I would blame the government for that? That is exactly the opposite of what I've said all along... But since you mentioned it- one of the big issues with diabetics is that they often continue drinking alcohol, the alcohol affects how they assimilate sugar and causes massive issues. So, in the interest of "Public Safety", are you in favor of people having to prove that they aren't diabetic before they are allowed to purchase alcohol? Perhaps a license proving that you're free from diabetes before you can enter a liquor store? Don't you see that if its the governments job to eliminate risks from our lives, that can only happen with massive intrusions into our personal lives? Personally, I think most people are smart enough to know when they are engaging in risky behavior. Just like most smokers realize that smoking isn't healthy, I believe most people realize that certain foods don't qualify as health foods.

That's the problem - this country just doesn't have its share of responsible or practical people anymore. More diabetics, more heart patients, more overweight issues and overall bad health habits all lead to higher health care costs for everyone. Over the last 50 years we have not become healthier as a nation.

But this is America - if the Muslims and North Koreans don't kill us first, we'll slowly kill ourselves instead.

It's our God-given right, dammit.

It is not hypocritical to say the government has no business in our business in matters that affect only ourselves. While safety is the matter of others to a point (I've never robbed nor shot at myself), my own health is not. I've never said the government had no business in matters I've accused them of not doing enough in.

Obesity and diabetes is ONLY the responsibility of the individual. If they abdicated, the government needs to stay out of the way and let them crash and burn. Then society itself can change and parents would become more involved. But it requires the government and nosy 3rd parties to get out of the way. We need to stop protecting people from the consequences of their actions, and stop making up artificial consequences that don't exist in the real world.

How about we get Sharia law and not allow alcohol at all. Diabetes is only the business of those who have it. We just need to stop paying for it. Give everyone more freedom while not sheltering them from the responsibilities. The more people are nagged, the more they will do whatever to spite others. Think of the number of men who stop drinking or smoking after losing their wife or mother. So lets stop making bad habits a battle of egos.

It is like the traffic sign wording study - there were for wrecks at "Do Not Enter" signs than at signs that said "Wrong Way." Why the difference? One was an order, the other was information, and nobody likes being told what to do. Just let them know there will be oncoming traffic in the lane and that they can enter at their own risk. Most will prefer a lane without oncoming traffic in it. The few who actually want to drive against the traffic will do so without regards for any signs (ie., suicidal people who have no regard for others either).

Brilliant idea!!!

Let's eliminate all government inspection agencies for the food industry.

Let's see...how about some Tomain poisoning? No? Ok, how about a good case of Samanella? Still not good enough? Alrighty, how about some good ol' fashioned Staphylococcus?

Did you know that it isn't required for you to thoroughly cook pork till well done anymore? Would you like to hazard a guess as to why not? Yep - government inspections have improved the meat processing industry that much.

But I wouldn't expect you to benefit from all these new-fangled food inspections - given you spend the majority of your time with your foot in your mouth anyways.

The first thing you'd complain about is why the government didn't step in and do something about Diabetes before your Mom lost her right foot. Trust me - if I could ignore all the health problems of all the Conservaturds in the US and just let them die off, I would - 53% of the population of the US would too.

Profanity is the last refuge of the ignorant. I believe I know plenty, and I don't others to say I do. The insecure needs papers and others to tell them how much they know and how much wealth they have.

No, I would not complain about the government doing nothing in the case of a relative getting diabetes. It would see it as a natural consequence of her choice all while reinforcing her choice to manage her body as she sees fit. But it would be the family's job and her own to keep an eye on her, not the government.

Ptomaine never existed. It was a made up term based on pseudoscience. The hypothesis was that when something died, things floated around in the area and randomly got on food and made people sick. Louis Pasteur disproved that myth, and a portion of evolution-related beliefs too (dirty rags won't evolve into rats, and malaria is not caused by "bad air"). Some people use this pseudoscience term to refer to any case of food poisoning.

You confuse protecting people from consequences of their OWN actions from those of others. It is ONLY society's job to protect you from OTHERS and never from yourself. I might go order a very fattening meal, and that is my right, and the ONLY one who has the right to care about me or worry about me is me. I would never go order something with dangerous pathogens on it.

There needs to be a law making it a felony to care in the least what others do in matters that affect only themselves. What I eat affects only me. If I deliberately serve something that makes people sick 100% of the time regardless of amount, that is a huge other problem. There needs to be a law making it a felony for Bloomberg to care what *I* eat (if I served it to him or a family member of his, that would be different). He should be sent to a reeducation camp that will do whatever it takes to train him to permanently look down or ahead when he walks, and only care about his own actions and actions done to anyone without their consent. When people care about how others look or how much they weight, enucleation surgery should be mandatory.

Good post. We have too much government interference, government has no place governing on how we treat our bodies. I treat my body with respect, work out, diet properly etc, and have no health problems. I do not like paying for lazy scum on welfare that are unwilling to work, not because they can't, but won't. Why! Because our government pays for them to make this a career move, and to raise more of the same.
Yep, I like your post, and reasoning.
And the pot calling you fat is hilarious.
Our government is not your government - you have none. Canada is a monarchy you twit!!!
