I do understand your message here, I just don't believe that any part of the blame should go on the tool used for the job. The way the govt tries to spin this is that it will all go away if the 'We The People' give up just one more of our rights, then when it doesn't go away they'll come for another piece until all the pieces are gone, and the problem will still be there.
I respect your opinion.
Good post. All this why do you need a 30 round mag. Hell why do you need a car that will do 130

Justy and Denny: I don't think you have to worry about guns being taken away. They'll always be here to some extent. No one wants to have to give up their rights and I don't believe the government would go as far as to remove all firearms from American citizens. Seems more like the president and government is trying to appease the concerns of a fed-up and frightened public. But can you really blame them? No one wants to lose someone they love to a crazed psychotic gun toting lunatic, but these massacres make us realize that no one is safe no matter where they are or may be. There have always been crimes like thefts, rape, etc., but no one was ever afraid to spend a night at the movies or to send their child off to school for fear they would be shot dead. Do you really feel that murderers who shoot to kill, really think that much about whether the other person is armed? Perhaps to some extent, which is why they methodically plan what they are going to do, or maybe they don't care one way or the other. Screwed up people like Holmes and Lanza, very likely feel so empowered, so invincible, that they can take on anyone. And for the Lanzas, they reluctantly or willingly make the final sacrifice with their own lives. People are crying out for justice. They're fed up seeing criminals get a slap on the wrist while their victims are either lying in a grave somewhere, or live to suffer physical and/or emotional damage. It's a dangerous world and I do see why someone would want to have a pistol stashed in their home, although that thought makes me a bit nervous, only because I fear someone would use it carelessly or through some senseless accident. I personally do own a pistol, but it is well hidden out of sight. I want to pretend it doesn't exist though. But I have to honestly admit, if I was in dire fear of my life or my family's; if all pleading, begging and peace making and warning failed, I would have no choice but to shoot, although I'd be much more in favor of wounding the culprit first, rather then killing him.

There's no doubt it's a bad, dangerous world out there. Life is cheap to a lot of people. No doubt.

But, what I read in these forums from the supposed 'good guys' does nothing to convince me that assault weapons and high-capacity magazines are a good thing for even the alleged 'good guy' citizens to have.

Ya know- genius's- habitchually talking about the 'right' and the 'need' to revolt against the government because you're pissed about finishing in second place (again!) to a Black guy who wants rich people to pay a little bit more in taxes, does NOT make YOU look like a good guy or a crime-fighting superhero. It kinda makes you look like a terrorist. It's not a good selling point to the rest of us who just want to live our lives in peace and quiet.

Besides, if you can't out-shoot a gangbanger with a .44 Magnum or a trusty .38, you shouldn't even bother posting here.

I dunno. With an entire country full of guns.... I think it's doing pretty damn good.
These incidences are horrible to say the least but with that many people armed it could be so much worse.

Like a ticking time bomb.

The media glorifies these things because people want to know about it.

And it goes in fads(for lack of a better term). I haven't heard much of zombies lately on the news. Or the use of bath salts....

Sadly someone dies everyday from a gunshot. Gangs, domestic disputes, road rage... But it's isolated. And the news very rarely puts it out there. And for the most part it goes unnoticed by the public because it was just one person.

But when it's a concentrated act it affects everyone.

Another problem is the media is so quick to jump on this most times there is discrepancies in their reports causing mass confusion and false stories.

These people are like.... Artists! And some even do call themselves as much.
So with that, just because you may refuse to talk about them and only refer to their victims you are Infact speaking of the 'art' they've created. They have affected you while the media infects you.

You can always admiring a painting without ever known whose painted.

It's a sad deal.

I wish peace for all this has infected. And for those who have been impacted.

It does seem a bit silly doesn't it..The really odd part is how 'some' people latch on to it like pit-bulls thinking that every person that owns a gun thinks they are Rambo..

You seem very level headed about this subject. Since you admit to owning a gun, you already know that there is a certain mindset about its purpose. Open that mindset, there are many facets to this particular tool. Sport shooting, target. Although a pistol would be a rough time on a skeet or trap range, there is a lot of fun. Investigate some of these shooting sports I am speaking of. Own the gun, don't let others or fear or the media dictate how you should...and if you are awakened in the night by an intruder and you are armed, that person is not there to negotiate..just sayin'

Of course, when logic fails someone, then drag out the race card, or start cursing and slinging personal invectives. Rational, logical, civil discourse is impossible for him and most others on here.

These threads are all running into each other..

Amendment 1Freedoms, Petitions, Assembly
Amendment 2 Right to bear arms
Amendment 3 Quartering of soldiers
Amendment 4 Search and arrest
Amendment 5 Rights in criminal cases
Amendment 6 Right to a fair trial
Amendment 7 Rights in civil cases
Amendment 8 Bail, fines, punishment
Amendment 9 Rights retained by the People
Amendment 10 States' rights

Perhaps we should stop debating over # 2 and take a vote on which one we would like to see be taken away next... It will come. Just like in Field of Dreams.... we can bank on it..if we do what the voices tell us to do......:)

not a panic, just a reserved concern...:)
said it before, I think we need a more stringent process in obtaining firearms.. thats the beginning...anything, that is outlawed is only going to force bootlegging,, which brings on more grief....and broken (new) laws...
and dont start me on the seatbelts! I have always worn one. But I still dont think we should be mandated to buckle... our children yes, ourselves.. no,,,, wrinkles the hell out of my clothes somedays....
