Speaking from experience I can tell you that
the over population in our prisons is directly
due to the war on drugs.
As soon as the government stops locking ppl up
for smoking weed you'll see those numbers drop.
There is no common sense in locking up those
kinds of non violent offenders.

I humbly bow...Your Highness....:)

but that's what they are asking of Congress. Nothing is going to stop gun violence. Nothing!!! I thought your post about if you couldn't hit it with a 12 guage then an automatic weapon was useless, was too funny <maybe bad choice of words>..

They can always come up with new laws. What difference does it make, how many times a kid was shot...Dead is dead...emotions aren't going to solve the problem. Only action. If they are going to make laws they need to be enforced. There are too many felons with weapons...ARRESTED, everyday or so around here. The law says they can't have a gun...does it make a difference??? NO!!!! Denny said it earlier...outlaw crime, then we'll talk about weapons...

I always like the bumper sticker...if you don't like my driving stay off the sidewalk, too...:)

The govt will do anything...ANYTHING...to create sheep of its people, they will play around with this issue while the media holds up pictures of dead children, they will up the ante by tossing a tax on it without ever explaining where that revenue will be used all while they avoid doing anything about the issues they scripted entire campaigns on. The people couldn't be played more.
The simple reporter is sent out to do a job, and then that report is spoon fed to the masses.

So, back to the question of this thread, are these shootings getting more publicity, ohhh you bet..

Good shootings should make the news. The times when firearms are used to save the day.

That is my stance as well, criminals will always exist and will always find a way to be as heavily armed as they feel is necessary to accomplish their crime, regardless of how many feel good useless laws they create. So as long as the criminal element has access to firearms, then the law abiding citizens need them as well, to act as a deterrent to those self same criminals. There are already plenty of laws, both federal and state on the books. What is needed is strict enforcement of those laws. No plea bargains, no early release, no country club prisons. All prisons should be modeled after Maricopa County Arizona. Sheriff Joe knows how to run a penal system.
Even if by some miracle, all firearms were removed from the public, you cannot put the genie back in the bottle and unlearn how to manufacture weapons. Both criminals and non criminals will just make more, in their basement or garage or workshop. Guns are here to stay, so deal with it and allow the citizens the ability to protect life and property from those who would try to take them.

Again- why even try? Let everybody do whatever they want. The ones that don't get killed, get green baloney sandwiches in a tent in the desert.

This whole America thing just didn't work out. Why did we even try?

You're out there this time F'man....pretending, emotional rubbish, won't solve a thing. The cops aren't ABLE to accomplish what you're asking. They can't keep up with the rules already established...How many people do you see speeding. I about get run over trying to keep the speed-limit. How many people do you see shop lift. How many people...et.al.??????

The list goes on and on but your agenda fails to let you see that it's hopeless....

That's a rather defeatist attitude. Why even try? Why, because we are human, rational, fallible humans. We need order, we need discipline. whenever there are two or more humans in the same geographical location, there will be conflict. Even among those who love one another. So there is a need for rules and regulations, laws and consequences. Without them anarchy and chaos would ensue. Without them, the weak would be preyed upon by the strong.
Those who chose to live outside of the confines of the rule of law need to be punished for their transgressions. It serves as a deterrent and facilities such as Sheriff Joes serve as the ultimate deterrent. Not only does he make his miscreants do hard time, he also provides solid, positive work programs to enable those who make the right choices to make productive use of their time. This gives them something to utilize when they get released. He has turned around a money losing animal shelter program and made it into a money maker and a career maker. He is a real difference maker in the county.

After any tragedy like this, there is alway's an overkill, kneejerk reaction.....attacking guns will do nothing, posibly they might limit computer game violence.....but, securing the school's access points is the remedy that makes the most sense.....

Your point does seem to make sense, but as long as there is easy access to guns, there is nothing to really stop another massacre. It can happen anywhere at anytime. With all the attention focused on these mass shootings, it's only a matter of time before we hear about another horrible catastrophe. What do we do then? Walk around in bullet proof body and head gear?

You are correct, also in the number of wierdo's that are conditioned by the amount of media overkill, to the point that they must duplicate or copycat the crime, in order to prove their distorted perception of worth.....

It's human nature to copycat. Here on OB it's done on a smaller, not-deadly scale. Short of a complete news blackout, you'll never stop crazies from hearing about the progress of other crazies. The media goes overboard because that is their business, that is what sells. The easy defeat for that is to not watch, or watch as little as possible. Can't stop the crazies from watching but, society CAN hinder their access to WMD's (in the form of assault weapons, high capacity magazines...)

I am afraid that too many assault-type weapons and high capacity magazines are already out there...i even have some, but have never used them....On a totally different point, i am a big proponant of, GREED being the biggest enemy of all....in media form, it present's itself as squeezing out profits, by regurgitating the same stories endlessly....One example, NBC Nightly news does a short segment on a volatile subject, then say's more can be seen on their news show, Rock Center with Brian Williams......then tomarrow on the Today Show, they show the segment also....Media Corporate Greed...same story, presented three ways.....

You can't stop shooting but an armed people can reduce the number of people killed. These crazy people want to die and they want the publicity they will get. I am all for killing them as quick as you can before they take more innocent with them. The gun free zones are at the heart of the problem As I have said before you will never see a headline that says mass shooting at gun show :)

Absolutely! All media is money driven now. It quit being "news" when Cronkite retired.

What we get is slant rather than truth. Take the topical BS about Obama signing lifetime Secret Service protection for himself and Bush. Fox (and others) paint it as Obama's "elitism" when actually, since 9/11 it's an extension of the previous 10 year post-presidency coverage because of the obvious security needs.

So "news" is now more opinion, loosely based on facts than ever before. All news programs must make money now. They are no longer a service to the community.
