<quoted text>The reason it is easy to get a gun is because gun ownership is your right in the constitution. The only thing that would have reduced the number of people killed in all of these mass shooting is one or more people who are armed.500,000 people in Texas have concealed carry and we are safer for it. If criminals are going to have guns even though it is illegal to do so I want good people armed and able to fight back
Thats it exactly.....

Unfortunately politics is so disconnected from real life now, its just not even comprehensible... Firstly, yes they are getting more publicity even over here we are hearing all about incidents which really, are none of our business. Why? Because that president is attempting to shift public opinion in hopes of a majority vote to ban guns. Why? Because America is probably the only country in the world where if push came to shove, the authorities actually wouldnt stand a chance against the entire population. And that is the problem. Criminals will always be against authorities that will never change. But Law abiders can be pushed around and can be disarmred if its illegal to be armed. And they outnumber criminals significantly. America is running a 16trillion debt. That will never be payed back, it just wont. Theyve accumulated 2trillion in less than two years. That level of debt accumulation cant even be curbed, let alone stopped. Or even reversed. So within the next year or two something is gonna give and when it does... well, lets just say the gove will take full control of everything. And administer some "tough love" and thats putting it very very very mildly. So... Protest? In Ireland i never attend any. I just cannot, no matter how hard I try, swallow standing in a stupid group waving stupid signs while being FULLY aware that the politicians were protesting just look out their windows and laugh before going back to their business. Now.. if we were all waving guns instead of signs, things might be different. See what im getting at? Americans face serious serious hardship and need to be controllable and suppressable by, what by then, should be a fully developed and equipped constabulary force when they decide enough is enough. It sucks but im almost positivr thats the general jist of whats going on.

Unless you're a grammer school teacher, accident is a reasonable synonym for fortunate. At least that's what my dictionary says.
I know what he was referring to - it's a public forum, don't get your panties in a wad over a word.
It's no big deal.

... before Reagen left office in 1989 he was working on creating a national background check and a mandatory waiting period for hand guns, it was called the Brady Bill... citing stats suggesting 9,200 murders in a year were committed with hand guns in the USA ... Reagen said "this level of violence must be stopped,Sarah and Bill Brady are working hard to do that and I say more power to them" ... this was a 180 degree turn from Reagan's 1975 piece in Guns and Ammo magazine ... three years later congress passed the Brady Bill ... Reagen joined former presidents Ford and Carter and called on congress to pass a ban on assault weapons,Reagen said the bans are "absolutely necessary and that it must be passed" ...

Here's the deal, Bex.
Even though we had a mass shooting at a movie theater recently, I fairly certain by laws of averages alone you won't be shot if you or your family goes to watch a movie - the same can be said for schools, stores, etc.
I wouldn't send my kids to a school knowing there are teachers with guns. I wouldn't go to a movie knowing the guy or girl next to me had a Glock on his hip with only 20 hours of training.
The ordinary citizen is not equipped mentally and or physically to handle an emergency of that kind. Target practice does not equate to the ability to handle a split second decision with a gun.
I will never bow to the fear and current paranoia that follows guns these days.
I get everything you say and it's just as scary thinking that some numb nut who thinks he's John Wayne would open fire in a theater probably killing everyone but the shooter, I get it.
But now a days it's just too easy for unsavory people to get their hands on guns, so 'security' is the next step, metal detectors, off-duty cops, anything is better then not having a plan at all.
I just don't think the solution is tighter gun laws, that's just making it harder for honest folks to get guns, not the one's who go under the table to obtain theirs.
*sorry if I haven't been keeping up with the debate, family issues haven't allowed me to keep up with all the post*

My view on guns is pretty straight forward, I think everyone should have one in their home. If a would be crook knows you have one, chances are he will by pass your abode.
The world is a lot meaner place now and people don't seem to take responsibility for their actions. Lawyers get the bad guys lesser sentences .... there is something wrong with that picture. For someone to enter a school and gun down innocent children or children going to school with guns ..... it's a madness that everyone talks about but nothing is being done.

I just wonder what a would be gunman would think if he walked into a place, pulled a gun only to look at 20 more pointing back? Hmmm ....
I respect your comment, but also have to wonder if these shooters would think twice if they went into a place knowing that others are armed and gun him down before he has a chance to kill innocent people because some made up voice in his head told him too.

That is my point. If there were no gun free zones there would be less mass shootings. If you had 4 or 5 people with CCL fewer people would have died. He didn't kill his self, he ran. He would have run if he was shot at

I know I sound like a country hoot and a holler, but people need to take responsibility for their own safety as well as their actions. Make it mandatory for people to have pepper spray, lol.
*Just kidding*

Schools have been targeted more, start there.
Did I hear Obama say something about gun control?
Ok then.

I really hope the gun laws change in America. By all means their constitutions says in they have the right to bear arms. Fair anough but surely a ban for those semi automatics is the right thing to do. It will save lives and that is what is most important.

seems to me a president was killed with a single shot not to mention a few others..........
UNION/CONFEDERATE
140,414 killed in action
365,000 total dead
275,200 wounded 72,524 killed in action
260,000 total dead
137,000+ wounded

And the relevence to American society today is?
It will not sto shootings but they will decrease;
Sure have guns, but why semi autos?
Obama will ban them and I am glad for that.
