With the advance of technology comes the need for more laws. Neither the Constitution or the Bible says anything about child pornography, for example, so, laws have to. Same with assault weapons. The founders never envisioned ordinary citizens having rife capable of firing 30 rounds (or more) as fast as one could pull a trigger.
Another thing to ask yourself is what are those weapons for?
They are for war or attacking a crime syndicate (drug Cartel)
What reason does the typical American want an automatic
weapon for?

Unless too many ppl believed Red Dawn is a distinct
possibility.(Remember that movie:)

Maybe we should be having a serious conversation about this locked embrace we seem to have, with our word by word interpretation of both the Constitution and the Bible....I agree, that they weren't written with any concept of the current society and world, we live in.....

I saw the original. I might look at the remake on DVD.

The notion that the greatest country in the history of the world would NEED to revolt would be a kick in the nuts to any society that has had a revolution or really should. There are people living in squalor elsewhere in the world and people here want to fight the government because the president is wants to tax rich people???? It's embarrassing and pathetic!

And none of those laws have stopped rape, murder or child pornography have they? Laws are for punishments. Some criminal will never say "I shouldn't rape this lady because I'll go to jail". The choice to hurt another is solely up to the individual. It is impossible to legislate a harm free world.

The majority of guns out there now will never kill a human, many will never kill an animal. Many legal gun owners simply enjoy target shooting with no intent of harm to anyone or anything.

Like I said before, I don't need it for protection, I don't need it to hunt. I don't need a car that can do over 140 mph or a $700 pair of shoes but I like them too. I simply enjoy shooting, it is fun.

Goodness- some people can create laws designed to wipe out welfare, homosexuality, voter fraud, etc. but, when it comes to mass murder perpetrated with semi-automatic weapons, oh- just throw up your hands! Can't do a G-damned thing about that! It's covered ever so effing clearly in THE CONSTITUTION! We can't do ANYTHING. But WAIT- THERE's MORE!!!! That means MORE GUNS!!!!!!!!

Yeah...the ONLY solution....

I've always enjoyed shooting as well.
We keep a 12gague shotgun at home for
those "just in case" moments.
I used to have a sawed off when I was
20 and lived alone w/my 3 yr old.

But I found out I really enjoy firing my
oldest sons 9mm. Other than a 45 I have
never had much experience w/hand guns.
However I absolutely Love that 9mm.

As far as automatic weapons I've always
figured if I couldn't stop an intruder w/a
12gague I might as well hang it up. lol

Just b/c a law doesn't stop a crime doesn't
mean it should be legal.
Where would we be if we said..."Rape laws don't
work so lets just make rape legal"....doesn't work.

And punishment/prosecution is what every rapists
needs. Be locked up with predators just like himself.
See how he likes being raped every other day.

I am a firm believer in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. That being said, I believe that the media wh@res do a very poor job of reporting the news and a very good job of editorializing and sensationalizing the news. Sex sells, crime sells, war sells, gruesomeness sells, so they want to be first with the gory details. Regardless of how it may impact the victims families or the survivors, they salivate over every sound bite. The rush to judgement and trample each other in the rush to be first with the "breaking" news, even if the information is erroneous. They make egregious errors and then speed on by any apology for the damage done by there misinformation in the rush to get to the next "breaking" story. It is more important to look good on camera than to get the facts correct. It is more important to be first than to be right. They are wh@res plain and simple, pimping the public and pandering to the lowest common denominator. They sensationalize every story and shove microphones in the faces of little children and with a gleam in their eye, they badger them for the gory details, so that they can titillate their audience.
The media wh@res disgust me.
On to the topic, of course shootings involving children, innocent people, and large numbers of guns or shots are getting more publicity now, because the media wh@res agenda is to show as often as possible and as graphically as possible that guns are evil and people who own them or condone owning them are sick and twisted. That people who believe in the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America are feeble minded children who need to be educated in the folly of their ways.

Fully auto are heavily regulated. The registry was closed due to Hughes amendment of the Firearm Owner's Protection Act in May 1986. There are less than 200,000 of them. I think you mean semi-auto :)

That's what i'm talking about! Laws are two-fold. They tell people what they cannot do and they lay out the punishment for those who just don't get it. They are not intended to prevent particular things from ever happening.

I just don't get the 'thought' process that says less laws will stop something if combined with MORE guns. The folks who make such claims would poop their pants if MORE welfare were to be seen as the answer to ending welfare.

I didn't say rape should be legal, I simply said laws don't stop criminals. Huge difference.
Again, it is impossible to pass laws to make the world harm free. Over regulation creates messes like we have in California with prison overpopulation, it has caused dangerous criminals to be released early, defeats the purpose of long sentences. For some reason it not was followed to it logical conclusion. But "Three Strikes" sounded good at the time. < that was last line was sarcasm

I used to work for a company that had a meeting and tried to outlaw anything that ever caused an accident. What a mess...and the people in the meeting were just sheep. Trying to do what was asked of them. I was one that had to work with the rules...stupidity in bloom!!!! All I can say...

Accidents happen. People do stupid things sometimes but it's not reason to limit everyone else from walking on the sidewalk.....:)

I'm sure I do.
When it comes to semi and fully auto I don't
know much about them.

There was a gun shop a few miles from our home
until 2 yrs ago. The guy would sell any kind of
gun.....and he also sold a "kit" that would turn
the gun you bought into a fully automatic.
He claimed that it was legal to sell the "conversion
kit" but he couldn't install it himself and
then sell the weapon.

That never made any sense to me.
Esp when I was told that even a child could
use this conversion kit. It was that easy to
install.

Speaking from experience I can tell you that
the over population in our prisons is directly
due to the war on drugs.

As soon as the government stops locking ppl up
for smoking weed you'll see those numbers drop.

There is no common sense in locking up those
kinds of non violent offenders.
