A "dick" indeed. And I don't know of a single case of someone getting shot to death without a gun. That applies to even "accidental" shootings.

Anyway, I'm happy his hands are "cold" now. I hope he rots alongside all of the mass murderes that have gone before him. They might have lots to talk about. I can imagine some of them saying, "You know, Charlton, it's thanks to your fine work with the NRA that I could purchase and load most of my guns!"

"Are shootings getting more publicity than usual?"

The news has always reported shooting, that is news.
I suspect many of you paranoid, live in perpetual fear ,NRA bunch who have the audacity to think you are patriots ,would rather not see any crime reported which involves the use of a gun.

Since the CO shootings I think that the media has grown an appetite from this type of reporting, easy, sentimental, and profitable. Yes, this recent tragedy involving children is rare ..or is it? Since the days of Nero children have been massacred, and before..
Amish community had a man walk into their school and shoot children. He wasn't even Amish.
What is my point? I think that the media throws kerosene into a fire.
The leftist media are trying their best to demonize all gun owners. The New York paper that mapped out all gun permit holders, put those people at risk of being targets of criminals. I'm hopeful that legal action will be taken against the news paper that published their locations.

They rarely ever report news about people who's lives have been saved, because they had access to a gun.

Not really, but it would be nice if they just report the news instead of putting their own spin on it. It would also be more non biased if they provided as much air time on the everyday stories of people who used a gun to prevent a criminal act.

But they will squeal that we are trampling on their 1st Amendment rights, while editorializing in every "news" story against the 2nd Amendment.

Just last week, I read about a woman shooting a prowler/robber who was breaking into her home. After she first spotted him, she forewarned him that she was armed. She took her children outside to a barn or shed first, then went back inside the house. He obviously ignored her advice and proceeded to enter her home. She fired several times, wounding him once or twice. He survived. Tragedies like the Colorado and Sandy Hook massacre news is not spin. I agree that these horrific incidents may be over publicized; but the harsh reality of what military style assault weapons can do in the hands of a mentally deranged person, is just too barbaric and grievous to explain in just a 15 min. or half hour news segment. When something so terrible happens in our society, people want answers. We all want to understand how something like this could happen and want solutions as to how another catastrophe can possibly be prevented from ever happening again.

In the opinion of many, they do much more than just report the news, for instance, the term "assault weapon" is a misnomer, used to frighten people. The more neutral term would be semi-automatic rifle. A military rifle is a full automatic rifle. They sensationalize and editorialize each news segment. They shove a microphone into a traumatized child and pray for a newsworthy reaction, so they can replay it over and over and over, even though it has no bearing on the actual story. In their race to be first, they report false information, such as a wrong name of the suspect, breaking news that the suspect killed his father and never even bat an eye when the information is wrong.

Rubbish! Shooting someone to death is shooting someone to death. There's not much spin that can change that fact. Sandy's right - you'd rather not have it reported at all or at least the report should read "it was an accident" or "he was mentally deranged" or "the gun went off by itself" or "the poor guy just came home from Afghanistan and was sleep-walking".

READ MY LIPS: It doesn't matter! I'll bet if someone shoots your mother you'll be furious if the newspapers talk about how the poor guy was refused tinker toys when he was 8 years and that was a contributing factor on why he pulled the trigger with your dear old mom in the cross hairs. But just imagine how he felt when he saw Mrs. R. Hippie leaving the toy shop!

"Non-biased" if they'd report on the wonderful things guns can be used for? Some guy just blasted several dozen children to death and you want to side-line the story on how "The Man who shot Librty Valence" was a hero?

I belong to the PTA for the preservation of children: mine, yours, his and hers. Pro children, anti guns. Up with people, down with firearms.

I love children, I love humanity. I prefer children warm and guns cold. Kids alive and firearms dead. You are either for humanity or against it.

Not so, we would like to see all the news in its truth. We would like to see the shooters not given so much attention, perhaps their names not glorified. We would like to remember the victims.

We would also like to see news of the shootings where, an innocent bystander carrying a gun, who risks their lives to use that gun against a shooter, praised as a hero. That is never publicised , or if it is, it is fine print.

I, personally, when the last hurricaine hit in the east, would have liked to have read more stories about the anti-gun folks suddenly realizing their gun toting neighbors were their friends..when looting was a fear... many of those stories..few glorified..

We would like to see realistic laws put into place. and realistic solutions,, that include more than just the weapon of choice used by madmen.

We would like to know that when we enter no-gun zones we are safe.

We are far from fearful, we are the ones you will call on when you are in danger. because you havnt equipped yourself to be prepared, and most likely risk our own lives to save you... god forbid that need arise.

Why not find out the stats on these guns as they pertain to death? Why not find out what a difference registering EVERY gun will have?

You wing nuts go to insanity mode very quickly and accomplish nothing but increasing gun sales. Take your love of the semi-automatic and automatic guns to anyone of the 750 bases we have overseas to protect American corporations.

I am not a progun proponant, but find that the problem isn't that news reports such incidents, but that they have a tendency to dwell on them...after the tragedy of Sandy Hook, for the next week, it was all they could report...as if no other news was worthy of broadcasting....they tend to turn it into a crusade...
