Mandatory gun ownership .... imagine that.
Went to what i thought was an antique shop in Kennesaw.....turns out it was a place that sold many odd items, among them civil war artifacts and materials associated with the KKK, asked the owner, what was said if an african-american came in? He laughed and said, they only come in once........so, perhaps we might have a fuller conversation about the true makeup of this town?

Ransom Stoddard shot Liberty Valance dead. When you get away with shooting the town up for decades as Liberty did, his luck was bound to run out sooner or later. Townsfolk were fed up. I hate guns, but couldn't help thinking Liberty got what he deserved.

I understand what you are saying but Kennesaw is not the only place in Ga where that is abundant.
Lot's of racial tension Ga, the little towns are the worst. People in my small city drive around with "Ole Glory" waving from the back of a pick-up. The "n" word is used in everyday redneck speech, and it's both sides of the fence, not just the whites.

My point is that if every family was known to own a gun, doesn't that work as a deterrent? Keeping people safe is the plan right?
It's unfortunate that the world is in such a state, but some folks don't care if they take your life. I have always thought that schools, churches, banks, and federal buildings should have security.

You're right. Liberty was a quick draw. Ransom would have been shot dead if it hadn't been for Tom.

Yawn...same old Denny - hanging on to the only answer the NRA has ever come up with - arm everybody, turn the US into Tombstone and nobody gets killed...LMFGDAO

If arming "everyone" is such a good idea, then why is Texas still well above the national average in violent crime?

I find our instant urge to go after the guns, in a tragic situation like this, shortsighted....plus, all it really does is enhance the political divide, which is strangleing our society.....better secureing of the access points to the schools is the finest change possible to the children's safety...we fail to remember, that is the point.....

I'm convinced that all military style assault weapons should be banned. Makes no sense to have a firearm with 30 round mags - not even for hunting.

Isn't Texas a state that "fries" it's death row criminals quickly? Stiffer laws and such? Fat lot of good laws have done to protect it's citizens.
If you want to protect yourself in this ole world it's up to you to do it. I'm not a paranoid person but you'll never know when some random fool will decide that your home looks like an easy mark. Or maybe some drug addict thinks you might have valuables to heist.
I will always believe that one's personal safety is one's own responsibility. Hiding in a closet waiting on the cops in not an option in my book.

Unfortunately that system failed. It was a simpler time years ago, but it's all changed now. People do exactly what they want and he wanted to kill .... he succeeded. The only thing that would have stopped him was fire power.
It saddens me that the world is such .... it tears my heart knowing what those kids saw before they were shot and their teacher, who they looked to for protection, had nothing to give but her life.
Very sad world.

More like "Stars and Bars", no?

No one but the truly weird are advocating complete elimination of self and home defense/protection.

But the assertion by the gunwing-nuts that's what is really going on makes for a 'rah-rah' rally point.

nothing can be prevented... the idea is to make the deterrents exactly that.... the death penalty is a good deterrent , but one with extreme pain not a shot in the arm

The Confederate flag is called ole glory. And I was answering someone else because in Ga, racism is still a factor.

Some people are easy targets because they have no self defense.
I think some of you folks on here have never been in the position of having a gun held to your head, I have. Believe me, it will change your opinion on having a gun when you have violence staring you in the face. All he had to do was twitch his finger and my head would have been splattered on the wall.
I have seen many crimes and those of you who are locked away in a safe community will come to realize one day that your haven has been breached.
Good luck and my advice is to buy a gun.

Tally, I do agree. Stiffer penalties might cap some crimes but alas .... trying to pass such laws will not happen. You have all those bleeding hearts who picket when a known killer is put to death.
I have always stated that we should use some of these islands far from civilization to dump our violent prisoners. Give them the means to grow food and they live, die, or kill each other. It sure would lighten the load of over populated jails. It could be done and the only guards would be patrolling around the island in boats.
