I know Obama has his -advisors- but I wonder if he ever gets on the internet and watches news reports
like the one I just read.

Throughout the week, the Syrian army has been relocating troops and hardware from military bases into civilian buildings and neighborhoods, witnesses say. In the major cities of Homs and Damascus, soldiers have been arriving by the busload at university dormitories, and residents said artillery and tanks had been moved into residential areas.

“The kind of strikes that the U.S. has telegraphed way too much in advance would not deal a significant military blow,” Hokayem said.“It’s given them so much time to hide that all they will do is destroy a few buildings.”

Meanwhile, he said, Obama’s hesitancy to act, in the wake of the refusal of Britain’s Parliament to endorse intervention, will only reinforce the impression among Assad’s supporters that the West does not want to see regime change in Syria.

Seems to be another case of procrastination by the
"US" and other countries.

Only five countries refuse to ban chemical weapons

THE HAGUE – Syria is one of just five countries that have not signed a global treaty banning chemical weapons. Israel and Myanmar have signed the convention but not ratified it, while Angola, Egypt, North Korea, South Sudan and Syria have done neither.

The Chemical Weapons Convention is aimed at ridding the world of such arms, which were first used in combat in World War I and also in 1988 against civilians in Halabja, Iraq.

The CWC has four main provisions: the destruction of all chemical weapons under strict verification; monitoring of the chemical industry to prevent development; helping protect nations against chemical threats; and boosting global cooperation to strengthen implementation.

“It is the first multilateral treaty to ban an entire category of weapons of mass destruction and to provide for the international verification of the destruction of these weapons,” according to the Hague-based Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which oversees its implementation.

No specific punitive measures are provided for countries that use chemical weapons. The document says only that the OPCW can “in cases of particular gravity, bring the issue, including relevant information and conclusions, to the attention of the United Nations General Assembly and the United Nations Security Council.”

Under the convention, ratifying countries commit to destroying their weapons stockpiles within 10 years, though some have obtained delays.

The United States is aiming for 2023, while Russia has set a deadline of December 2015.

The CWC allows experts to conduct inspections at short notice at military, civilian and industrial sites where sensitive listed chemicals are used.

Signing of the convention began in 1993, and it took effect on April 29, 1997.

The OPCW has 189 so-called States Parties, including nearly all industrialized nations.

then on the other hand it all sounds like a pile of BS!
They say they will but none have...

So, Obama's red line in Syria is just like his stand for one man/one woman marriage in 2008. Another broken campaign promise.

No one wants to go to war.. And I mean no one.. But to set back and allow innocent people be gassed- especially by their own government that is suppose to protect/serve them, not to kill them- is unthinkable.. We should have already punished them.. Its more embarrassing to see this all played on national TV....

Over 100,000 were killed prior to any of the gas attacks. What's embarassing is this administration and the likes of Pelosi waiting until a few got gassed to pretend to care.

It's called "Positioning" for the -near- future.
US to deploy missiles and jets to Jordan
Washington says weapons may remain there after exercise to help Amman deal with threat from conflict in Syria.
NATO this year sent Patriot missile batteries to Turkey to intercept missiles that may stray from Syria [Al Jazeera]
The United States will send a Patriot missile battery and F-16 fighters to Jordan for a military drill and may keep the weapons there to counter the threat posed by Syria's civil war, officials said.
The anti-missile systems and jets were approved for deployment to Jordan as part of a joint exercise with Jordanian forces, US Central Command said in a statement on Monday.
"In order to enhance the defensive posture and capacity of Jordan ( Yew, right!), some of these assets may remain beyond the exercise at the request of the government of Jordan," the statement said.
US officials declined to say how many F-16s would be taking part in the exercise ( How many have 'we' got in Egypt now?), or how many aircraft might remain afterwards.
The US backed a similar move earlier this year in Turkey, with NATO deploying Patriot missile batteries along Turkey's border with Syria.
That deployment came after warnings from Washington to President Bashar al-Assad's regime against shipping advanced missiles to fighters in Lebanon's Hezbollah Shia group, which is now openly taking part in the conflict in support of Damascus.
Israel has carried out air strikes in Syria in a bid to disrupt the possible delivery of missiles to the Hezbollah movement.
The decision to possibly station F-16s and missile batteries in Jordan will fuel speculation of a potential US military intervention ( to say the least), which the White House so far has described as a remote possibility.
Patriot missiles are designed to shoot down Scud or other short-range missiles, known to be in the Assad regime's arsenal.
The Pentagon has already sent about 200 troops to Jordan, including an element of a US Army headquarters, to help the country prepare for possible military action in Syria, including scenarios to secure the regime's chemical weapons stockpiles.
Fighting raged on Monday in Syria, with regime aircraft pounding the embattled city of Qusayr near the border with Lebanon, in a three-week-old offensive backed by Hezbollah ( The governments of the U.S., Netherlands, France, Gulf Cooperation Council (?), U.K., Australia, Canada, the European Union and Israel classify Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, in whole or in part.
Hezbollah was conceived by Muslim clerics and funded by Iran following the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, and was primarily formed to offer resistance to the Israeli occupation forces.
