I'm 32, and a year ago met the most beautiful 18 year old girl. Long story short, we're in love now, live cheap, read in the evening, watch movies, cuddle, eat biscuts, take care of our dog and ferret and are very happy..... I work teaching college (where we met) and though I have a small income, we don't care, so long as we can pay the rent, electric, and somtimes heat... and have a little extra for groceries, movie or pinner out... Though her mother hates me (and called me a pervert) I figured she was just bitter and neurotic and old...
Occasionally, when we go out, people stare- and to some degree I understnad, but, is it THAT wierd to have a 19 year old girlfriend (a 5'7 curvey lean, smokin' hot, little forties actress, classy lady lookin' gal on my arm) or a people just jealous that were happy- life's a day in the park- and she's young and beautiful?

When I was 45 I had girls from 15-30 asking me out every night in Brasil. That never happened in the U.S.

Ok, IMO, not that anyone asked...

if a guy is in his 30's and is that compatable with an 18 year old he's extremely immature...

I have an 18 year old daughter so am around quite a few 18 year old GIRLS. And while my daughter is extremely bright (4.6 gpa, honors college, scholarship) and obviously beautiful (looks like me DUH) and as an only child pretty mature for her age she is in NO WAY ready for the emotional ties associated with a relationship with a man who is in his 20's let alone 30's...and not one of her friends is ready for that either...

Unfortunately, being 18, the Mom has no say in it other than to voice her obvious disapproval...GO MOM!

Hopefully this young woman will realize it's a mistake and get out while she can.

again, not that you asked...but then again, you kind of did by starting this thread!!

I want to reply to this thread because I am torn on the issue. As a guy, yes, I must admit that I am jealous that you have found someone that it works with - but as someone who has been put through the ringer by a younger woman, please don't be offended by those who say you are a pervert or that it won't last. My ex-fiance was 20 when we met, and I was 34. We were engaged for about seven months. She cheated on me, lied to me, and did all of the worst things that a woman could do. I loved her, and part of me still does (get your mind out of the gutter, hubba hubba) which is why I seriously hate her. She disappointed me. I thought she was more mature than she was. I thought she was worth having in my life. It turns out that she was just a stupid little girl inside - as I had originally suspected when we met.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that the age difference is the problem. It isn't. All you have to do is look at people in their 40's marrying others in their 20's. It happens all the time.

What I am saying is that the years between 18 and 25 are very chaotic years for some. And if your girlfriend does settle down during that time, you had better be sure to keep her happy because she will likely leave you for someone her own age, or even someone younger. Why? Well, her friends mainly. Right now it is probably not a problem, because you both have some of the same friends. But she will eventually make friends in some of her classes, or in a student organization, and when other girls find out she's with you, they might try to sabotage the relationship - the guys certainly will - because that is what friends do for us, they screw up our lives as if we aren't capable of doing so by ourselves. I want to make it clear that I am not judging either you or your girlfriend with this. I am just giving you the benefit of my experience. She WILL regret the fact that she is with someone older at one point or another in the relationship - the first time your back goes out, for example, or when you have prostate issues, or any of the other problems associated with getting older. She may look for someone younger. She will probably find that person. To that end, I am saying enjoy it while it lasts, and take things as they come. You may have a long life together (and if that is what you both want, I wish you the best) or one or the other of you might decide it was a mistake.
In short, the age difference is not really the issue, but it is the fact that she hasn't become emotionally mature yet. As for all of that "girls mature younger than boys" tripe that people spew out, it is bunk. Girls pick up some things sooner than boys, but boys pick up other things sooner than girls. It simply isn't true that one gender matures faster or sooner than the other. Men tend to have more hormonal imbalance before 18, and women before 30. If you take that "sexual peak" information into the equation, you realize that women actually mature more SLOWLY than men. Like I said, though, neither is ever truly mature until the dirt starts getting shovelled in on top of them. Your girlfriend needs to have some fun with people her own age for a while. If, when she is in her 20's, she is still attracted to you, even though you will be in your late 30's or early 40's, you should probably give it a chance. But I have found that until 25 - more or less - women tend to have frequent emotional instability. They are either clinging to someone older, trying to prove how mature they are, or appearing on "Girls Gone Wild" videos trying to prove how "cool" they are. Both are signs of immaturity, and both should be approached with caution. There are those who are in neither extreme, but they do fluctuate between the poles of "stability" (the older boyfriend) and "wild" (sometimes slutty) behavior to some extent.
If I had to guess about your girlfriend's personality, one of three things is true.
1, she has no father-figure at home (or at least no strong father-figure) and looks to you as a protector
2, she was raped, or otherwise abused by an older male - adult or adolescent - at some point in her life. She may not even remember it.
3, she wants the attention from her mother, friends, and other people that dating an older man gets her.
This is going solely on her age, of course. By the way, remember my ex-fiance? She was all 3 - or at least she TOLD me she was all three, but since she was a pathological liar...

By the way, I will be 38 on the 30th of October. I am still looking for my ideal woman. I used to say she was intelligent, honest, and had a pulse. I have lowered my standards recently, the pulse is now optional.

I was 45 and came close to marrying a 27 year old. I was stranged when she asked me "you mean to tell me Paul McCartney was in a band before WINGS?"

I was thinking of adopting a girl that age.

But seriously; The maturity level being a compatibility issue is something that I wonder about. i just don't play with GI Joe's anymore and never did play with Barbie dolls except parachutes (when girls were over, Both our GI Joe's and Barbies would go parachuting, I could throw the Barbies higher, lol!)

Wait a minute! Some Adult men still DO play with Barbie dolls!!!

...Sorry.

The young women with older men, may not to stop to realize that these older men are always going to be older. These older men will probably get to the point that it will be harder for them to get it up and keep it up. Dern...I forgot. Viagria was invented to help that problem. LOL!!

I do have to say that this situation goes both ways. I married a man 11 years old than me, and just got sick of doing the things that his part of our generation enjoyed doing, etc.

For instance, he was hell-bent on moving to a community in Florida for folks over 50 (you had to be 50 or married to someone that age to get in). I was horrified. Sure, maybe it was a community of people who were "young at heart" (rolls eyes) but many people who are 90 and above are truly still young in body as well. So was I, and I was young on paper! He was becoming sedentary and I couldn't get him off his butt no matter what. He always told me it was our difference in age; as I watch people in my neighborhood take up the rocking chair as they hit older years, I think perhaps he's right.

Today those differences are still there, and we are long divorced. But I can tell you, the first person to bring a rocking chair into my house is going to get slaughtered. There was no maturity issue with my ex an me. It was an issue of, "do I really need to get old in my thirties?" "Do I really want to sit down and never get up?" Et cetera.

So before you all attribute it to lack of maturity on the younger woman's part (before you jump on me, I do agree it applies in some cases), think about it from her end first. If you do marry someone younger, you'd be lots better off to adopt the younger way of thinking. Here are some tips:

-Don't buy the elastic waist jeans just because all your friends have them.
-Don't watch reruns of "All in the Family."
-Throw away your t-shirt with M.A.S.H. characters all over it.
-Get out the bell-bottoms again :-)
-Try snowboarding--just try it! I loved it.
-Dump the stupid clunky Cadillac
-Throw away the lawn dart set and take up volleyball. Play it with all the life you have in you. Learn to beat the snot out of it. Play it outdoors.
-For God's sake stop worrying about your hairline and shave your f*cking head already! Heads are good.

There are many more ideas where that came from, but you get the gist of it--don't stereotype younger women unless you are willing to look at the older men they marry as well.

Mexican Hillbilly - The girls that hit on you in Brazil....were hookers. This is why normal 15 to 30 year olds in the US do not hit on you...unless of course they are hookers. How proud you must be to think an under-age girl would find you attractive.
