Even through winter we are "lucky" to get 10 or 15 days at or below freezing. Almost never in a row. Summer however can have temps near or above 100 for weeks at a time. So I call it Summer. OK? Hey my favorite RR! Great plan. Yes an essential ingredient to life. You gave me the idea that Water will be our next challenge. Been missing your posts out here. <3's Hey! Here's a paper towel, now wipe that up and go outside. ;-D))) BTW. We are living in a house in a semi-rural urban environment. TenderTink wrote: LOL Y'all come up with some great and funny ideas. Makes me grin ear to ear. Let's change the situation and do it again? OK roommates, here is our problem: The electric company turned our power off for non-payment. We're sitting in the dark in an all electric home. We spent all but 5.00 yesterday stocking up our freezer with groceries. What are we gonna do now? ( We all have 4 days before we have $$ in the house again.) Put your thinking caps on and tell me how we're going to survive this.O's -n-:-)'s Got a BBQ and an esky? I do. I'd cook all the meat and put my ice bag in the esky then store everything in there...lol, we get a lot of power outs. Failing that scenario, go to a friend's or family member's place with power and take all the groceries with you. Having said that, we would eat $5 worth in one meal :) Your food must be so cheap there, fascinating.

Hi JuicyLu, Hi Reebie, Thank you both for the great ideas! JL, I should clarify... we only have 5.00 left over after buying the groceries. LOL a bit of a language barrier here ;-) I'm thinking an esky is a type of Styrofoam or insulated ice box? With that idea we would spend the 5.00 on ice to keep the perishables cold? Reebie, I like the idea of sharing with the neighbors always.... What would be your first choice from the canned food shelf? Keeping in mind that the canned pantry contains mostly vegetables, rice, noodles and dry condiments. :-) Dear roommates, keep in mind... cooking and food is not our only problem.... It is summer and Hot, hot, Hot; no A/C. No lights after dark. No hot water for bathing, washing dishes or clothes. A few of us have to get to work and back home.....transportation is hard to come by. We have a handicapped member in the household, who is totally dependent on the rest of us for meals, transportation, medication, and emotional support. Will let y'all all mull over a bit more and check back later. Wishing everyone a great Sunday afternoon and a blessed happy week ahead. O's -n-:-)'s -n- <3's.

My hot water and stove is gas so am ok there and am used to heat so ok there too. Candles and torches for dark. I always have spare fuel so transportation is not a problem and battery operated fans are a great investment. Have you had many blackouts? Lol...

Hi Reebie, Hi JuicyLu.. Tuna and pears! Two of my fav's also. :-) I'm thinking our girl down under has us all beat as far as dealing with extreme weather and harsh conditions! You sound well prepared JL. As far as blackouts? No it's not a common occurrence here. If we lose power due to weather it is usually restored with in a few hours at most. Now, that is here in the south/mid western US. Our conditions are very mild compared to our North and Eastern neighbors. Power being shut off for non-payment of a bill.... more common. We've only experienced that a few times in the past few years. A week was the longest with out power. There are several help resources and agency's that will assist people in a slump. Most of the utility company's too, would prefer to work out an arrangement for payment, than be caught in a news story about a granny or weak person dying without power to run the A/C or oxygen machine. Are y'all ready for a new challenge? I told RR we would do without water. So let's complicate things... We are in rural country with no surface water sources near by. The pump on the deep underground spring well has broken. It's mid-summer. We have no money, and the nearest town is 20 miles away. Our cow is weak and her milk is drying up. The chickens are parched and the crops in the garden are withering. What are we going to do now? ;-)'s -n- O's -n- <3's
