Driving after smoking even a small amount of marijuana almost doubles the risk of a fatal highway accident, according to an extensive study of 10,748 drivers involved in fatal crashes between 2001 and 2003.
A study by the French National Institute for Transport and Safety Research published in the British Medical Journal found that seven percent of drivers involved in a fatal highway crash used marijuana.
The researchers estimated that at least 2.5 percent of the 10,748 fatal crashes studied were directly caused by the use of marijuana.
I bet the percentage rate is higher than 2.5. These types of studies are sometimes biased.

That's great your system can handle it. Some people's system's cannot handle it. I don't think it's a crime to smoke it, I think everyone in jail needs to be released . I just think it's bad to legalize it because it is a drug, and can have ill effects to some people. I am sure there are alot of people whose systems can take it, and don't abuse it. But this is a DRUG, natural or not, and making this legal sends the WRONG MESSAGE TO OUR YOUTH. What will be legalized next? Where do we DRAW THE LINE ??????

Yes!!! I don't smoke it. I don't drink. What does irk me are opinionated people want to enact laws to punish others that don't believe in their doctrine.
Just to make it clear, I am not being opinionated here if u think I am. I am simply against legalizing this for recreational purposes because it's unhealthy, its a drug (natural or not ) that has chemicals in it that cause problems with some people, this is fact, evidence shows this. And it sends the wrong message to our youth, as I have stated time and time again.

1. The article says he also had taken bath salts which if anyone here remember s makes people eat the faces off of other people.
2. Take a look at the erratic behavior from people that consume too much alcohol, get in cars, and kill other people. Start bar fights, beat their wives, things they wouldn't otherwise do sober.
3. If you've never tried marijuana it hardly makes you an expert on the judgement of its capabilities or side effects.
You misread it. It says they tested for bath salts but only THC was detected.

I agree with your points about alcohol. Pot is generally a mellower, can get some paranoid but then what's that compared to other things
apart from the underage aspect, it's clear it was only a 'contributing' factor because of circumstances and a combination of other drugs too. And again, how many youngsters have died from alcohol contributing fatal accidents, or overdoses of paracetemol we could get on that... people are shouting 'think of the kids, save the kids' when it comes to their home first aid kit
The high rise building he fell from was also a contributing factor.
And you bring up a good point about acetaminophen (paracetamol). Tylenol is one of the most easily overdosed drugs around.

Creating legislation because SOME people have bad reactions to it isn't a very good reason. If we are going to do that then we will banning Dairy, peanuts, cough syrup, Tylenol,Coffee, sugar, etc..
A sure sign a moral crusade is BS is when the " What about the children" crap starts getting used. Where do we draw the line?? When the line is on the side of freedom.

What an individual chooses to do with his/hers health and consciousness is nobodies business but that individual. Limiting that born right they have is immoral.

Marijuana is a drug, making this legal is sending the wrong message to our youth. I don't think protecting our children from a potentially dangerous drug is crap! There ARE SIDE EFFECTS to Marijuana that are permanently damaging for life.

So you think to make pot legal because 1/2 of the population doesn't see these damaging effects....Therefore , who cares about the other 1/2 of the population that does get damaging effects for life??? This is not a freedom issue, this is a health issue, bottom line, SAY NO TO DRUGS !

Say no to drugs campaign is a proven failure. Making laws does nothing to save or protect children. It only serves as a feel good scapegoat and to give people a sense of doing something.. It is 100% a freedom issue. If your not entitled to the freedom over your own consciousness and health and having such things being limited through misguided legislation, then that is a clear violation of your liberty and freedom. Not to mention the federal government has no Constitutional granted power to outlaw these things. All powers not granted to the federal government by the Constitution are to be decided by the states within their respective borders.

Wait.

He ate a marijuana cookie and "exhibited hostile behavior"?

There's nothing reported where he was thwarted in in his search for Dorito's.

There's something missing in this story.

I've never eaten marijuana..........lets put it that way. I've never known anyone to act erratic or hostile while enjoying marijuana. Nor have I heard of any stories till now. There's got to be more to it then that? Strange

After reading your post you make me think..........maybe he had a hungry attack and figured the quickest way to the first floor was by using the balcony. Maybe his hostile behavior was because his friends wouldn't go out on a late night Taco Bell run?

It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland when she eats the mushroom.

I, myself, have never eaten marijuana. Nor do I think I will ever shoot it!

When I drank alcohol I wanted to do stuff with my friends. It is more of a social drug.

When I smoked pot I just wanted to be alone and hit a "G" chord on my guitar. "WOW!!!"

Both those days are over. My European wife still professes Alcohol and Marijuana will lead to other drugs. I'm living proof that she is wrong.
I have no urge to be Mayor of Toronto or Philly. It would also cost a fortune to fill this nose with cocaine!
