I was a page,(mail room clerk) in a Fed Reserve bank. Had access to all the floors with a key card. The coolest thing was walking through the tunnels 6 stories below ground. Seeing semi truck sized plastic bags full of pale greenish sawdust material. It was shredded money material from the restore rooms ready to be recycled back to the minting facilities.

Second coolest thing, the restore rooms. People or banks could send in damaged torn or worn out money from floods , fires, etc. and clerks would sit at desks and try to piece it back together by hand.

Did you know the Fed. Reserve would replace your money if you sent in at least a piece of it?
I think a certain per cent of the serial number had to be visible tho.
Don't know if they still do that.

1st 'paying' job was helping other farmers mostly
putting up hay and cutting tobacco.
1st job to receive a check was working for the ASC
measuring tobacco crops for establishing allotment.
1st regular check was for teaching which I got once per month.
1st big check was working for Roadway Trucking which I received weekly.
The "BIGGEST" check I ever got was from taking the little checks and saving as much as I could to buy property and then selling it.
