Oh no! Shot 6 times? That's insane! There's more to this story, imo. If that was my dog I'd be crying my heart out and I'd demand to know why he was shot 6 times.

Because the first five shots didn't kill him would be my guess.

We need an icon for dark, sarcastic humor.
That being said, if that was my dog that neighbor wouldn't be sticking around long. I wouldn't shoot him, but let's just say living near me wouldn't be much fun.

Just a thought- why would you let your award winning dog wander loose all over the neighborhood? Just sayin'. This kind of thing used to be very common when I was younger and everyone thought their dog had some right to wander free. Neighbors would ask that their dog be controlled, and if not, it was usually never seen again.

Tragic, but, you know, preventable. Like the dog owners had no culpability in the loss of this 'precious family pet.'

Poor story. Not enough info. What is acting aggressive? How aggressive? Why couldn't he have called animal control or the owners instead of shooting a Lab? You morons making jokes should have your best friend killed to see how it feels. You shouldn't have to take six shots to kill anything. Sounds like they wanted it to suffer.

A man in Graylake, IL shot & killed a dog that had wandered away from the shelter he was dumped at. The man said he thought it was a coyote. This was a 35# all-black terrier. He looked nothing like a coyote. This big tough guy shot the dog out of the window of his house. Some people from the shelter were trying to chase the dog down at the time they heard the gunshots.

Two of my neighbors were feuding over one of them letting a dog run loose, and this is a rural area.
The one without the dog complained to his neighbor and complained to the sheriff. He threatened to shoot the dog but decided to fence his acre and a half lot to keep the dog out.
Things were cool for a year or so and then the dog got in the fenced yard one night and went after a family pet. I heard a shotgun go off. Dead dog.
Sheriff called, dog owner wanted to press charges but there were complaints about his dog on record. Police told him he was just S.O.L.
Don't expect others to have the same regard for your animals if you can't or won't control them.

If this was my dog, I wouldn't have gone to the press. In fact, things would have just gotten very, very quiet. Especially for Tony Williams.

Opis I have to take exception here, this was no neighborhood, this is a highly rural area just east of me, and we know a family out there who has told us a little more detail. Us Hoosiers want our dogs to be able to wander around our farms. This highly trained hunting dog was not aggressive or out of control, as a retriever he'd be the last to even harm a chicken. Maybe carry it to his master, but not hurt it in the slightest. This dog was FOLLOWED and shot that many times, NOT ALLOWED to live long enough to return to it's own property.
If the dog had shown up aggressively, then Williams would have no qualms about saying so and admitting to the truth the first time the family asked them about the dog.
If this were my dog, this horticulturist would declare and horticultural warfare on that man's crops, and he'd never turn a profit as a farmer ever again as long as he lived near me. His acreage be like Egypt and the plagues up in this beetch!
