Don't apologize to the Neo-Nazi war monger kraut. He gets on this thread and braggs about how many Jews his ancestors murdered and how much Jewish property his fine German ancestors stole from the Jews. He is a dangerous person and should never be trusted.
When did I say that?

Talk to YOUR politicians! They want the American presence in Germany (costs the U.S. tax payers a ton of money). Attacking Americans is futile and senseless.
Also - who really forces Germans to eat American food? Listen to American music? Use American devices? Admit it, you people have embraced everything American wholeheartedly, and then you are hypocrite and arrogant enough to condemn America! How ironic!
And thanks for the translation, but I know German very well (better than you know English).
I neither eat American food nor do I listen to American music.
Mostly I listen to German bands.

Logic, as in rational thinking or reason, is already a part of science. But ways that people have used in order to explore or think about the universe beyond just science could be things like philosophy, introspection, meditation, and yes, religion.
Yes, science is limited. It explores and investigates the mechanistic, naturalistic aspects of the universe. That's it. If you want to explore beyond that (or explore if there IS something beyond that) you need to rely on something else. Different tools for different jobs.
The reasons we have these debates at all is because some people think that the mechanistic explorations science does somehow conflicts with the other explorations they are doing.
Let me give you an example. Presumably you believe God created rainbows. But at some point you probably learned about how rainbows are made by light going through rain droplets. Did learning that undermine your belief that God created rainbows? Of course not, that was just the mechanism by which rainbows are formed.
Same thing with Evolution or the Big Bang Theory or whatever other science. Evolution is the mechanistic explanation for the diversity of life on Earth. That's it.
Well said.

Excellent. I feel like we accomplished something today.
Tomorrow, peace in the Middle East. I'm feeling saucy.
Peace in the Middle East could take a couple of days, I say let's keep it simple and focus on the Health Plan.

Yiddish, for kid or boy. In my experience it is a term of endearment, but also a little condescending when applied to an adult, like you are patting them on the head.
I am the last person to wax patriotic about America. I turned 18 and started college just before the first Gulf War and there was talk of reinstating the draft. I was reading a lot of anarchist and radical literature, even dabbled in conspiracy theories (drifted out of that, now I can't stand them. Truthers scare the hell out of me). I'd probably be agreeing with most of the things you say if 18 year old me was here now.
I accept my country has done and continues to do horrible things. As do all countries, because they are run by people who, unfortunately, tend to do horrible things. Mine just happens to get the most press.
But I still love the idea of America. In the long run I'd rather be somewhere that shoots for greatness and fails spectacularly than a place that shoots for mediocrity and hits the bulls eye. On one side of my family, we have Daughters of the American Revolution who can trace our ancestry back to the Revolutionary War and even further back. On the other side are very recent immigrants who spoke little no English when they got here and now have a very decent life. I can walk down the street of New York and hear 20 different languages. Yes, all of our national foods originated somewhere else. That is the point because so did we.
I can understand why you feel the way you do about America. And I can't guarantee that 5 minutes after you get here some redneck asswipe isn't going to say something incredibly stupid to you about Nazis or whatever. But, if you check the attitude a bit, the people you meet might surprise you.
Excellent post.

I too am proud to be American and was raised in an honest, healthy environment in Connecticut, but having lived outside of the US for many years and looking in from the other side of the border you can see a different angle. Many countries do respect America for many different reasons (at least they did until Mr. Bush came along) but they exemplify the bad and twist reality a bit. Many more simple Germans do tend to mock the US, but this comes mostly from lack of actual knowledge. Educated (rather - experienced) Germans who do business with the US have a much greater respect. Having worked for one of the largest German companies for 20 years, I know this.

Stolz will most likely change his opinion when he visits the US and sees Real America first hand. Sure, he'll run into a few idiots along the way, but hopefully his overall opinion will change from this experience.

And yes, there are a few idiots. I was at a presentation once where a German was presenting a topic on technology. There was a man in the front row wearing a big cowboy hat - already a good sign - in a room full of well-dressed executives. The German pronounced Unique wrong - as 'eunuch', and sure enough, the bright Texan interrupted him with a "Wadja say?" Someone explained to the man 'Unique', and in a loud barreling tone he blurts out "Oh, well I'm from Texas (really?) And in Texas a eunuch is a man with but one testicle!" I was so proud to be American at that moment.

Unfortunately it is precisely that kind of ignorance that gives the US a bad name to foreigners, but that kind of person is 1 in 100. Stolz is still a teenager, and has no firsthand experience whatsoever. I hope the "hate" lessens with experience and age.

Enjoy your trip Stolz, try to make the best of it. Don't forget to try the seafood!

Science is much more exciting. For example I investigate lattice gases in a ring system with my C++ written simulation program at the moment. That's useful and an efficient use of my leisure time.
I still have a language question.
How do I know if someone who is talking too a religious man"I don't understand why you are wasting time" mean just this person or religious people in general who are wasting their time?

It is human nature to search for absolute truth and absolute truths are found in the Bible. You need to be more open minded and do some serious study before you make emotional statements.

Putin is the best politician Russia ever had.

Your news only show how ignorant you Americans are. I am refering to the black faced Germans.
We Germans don't have a past with slavery of blacks. So it isn't a taboo in our culture to color our faces black. Therefore you also see some black faced people on German carnival. It hasn't something to do with racism. There are other cultures than American cultures and just because it is a taboo in yours it doesn't mean that it is a taboo in ours.

Look at these ignorant Americans discussing about this topic;
