Same with a LOT of large local floods. To many frightened or superstitious people it probably seemed like the end of the world. And for those who died in them it was.As for the flood it happened. Most likely it is the flooding of the Black Sea by the Mediterranean. To the ancients living there that was pretty much the entire world.
The thing with many of these old flood stories is that they may not all have necessarily been rooted in the exact same flood event.
