Then he'd be lying. We do know that the universe is older than the Earth, not only did we learn this with some impressive mathematics, dating methods, etc. it would be impossible for the Earth to have formed before the thing it exists in was formed.

So we've gone from "Modern Germans understand Old English" to "Modern Germans have an idea on Old English". I do love to watch you backpedal when you get caught in a lie.

So you're changing the subject again because you've been caught in another lie. I see.
You are really funny. What is the difference between an idea and understanding?
I still stand on my word. No backpedalling.

<quoted text>
Which is it? Understand, or "have an idea"?
Make up your mind.
There is no difference between understanding and having an idea?
The issue is that, old English is more closer to modern German than modern English. By this, the Germans do have a better understanding of old English than modern English.

Modern English and Modern Scots are descended from Middle English.
Middle English is descended from Old English.
Old English and Old Frisian are both descended from Anglo-Frisian.
So Old English is most similar to Old Frisian.
This does not tell us that any modern speaker of English, Frisian, German, or any other language can understand Old English.
But it was stated that, old English is more closer to modern German than modern English. This alone means that, Germans will understand more of old English than modern English.

This does not tell us that any modern speaker of English, Frisian, German, or any other language can understand Old English.
In addition, modern English had roots from Latin, Greeks, Norman French, European, Asian and African languages.
The almagamation of these languages into the English language is unique to England and England alone.
All nations must not fail to recognise that.
English as a language was spread to the world by them, before the US, Canada, Australia, took part, in the spread.

Mistake can happen any where, to any one.
Like what happened in my country recently. A man and the brother in law, went for hunting in the forest closer to their village, both of them parted ways, to get some bush animals, unfortunately, the man thought, he saw an antelope and he shot at it, only to find his brother in law, in his own pool of blood, now the man is in police custody, saying it was never intentional on his part.
But the law must take its cause.

If you had read the sources, you would have seen where they were discussing *grammar*.
Now, where is your evidence that *modern Germans* can *understand* Old English.
No, you're not allowed to backpedal and change "understand" to "have an idea".
Your claim was "understand". Do you renounce your claim, or do you stick with it?
I stick to my word like a glue. I have not change any thing.
Having an idea is also similar to understanding in all standard.
You have no clue.

You're trying to squirm out of your original claim by moving the goalposts.
You said that modern Germans could *understand* Old English.
Now you're changing your claim to modern Germans being able to "understand more" of Old English than modern English.
So are you admitting that you were wrong when you said that Germans could understand Old English?
(No, you can't keep moving the goalposts.)
You are the one moving the goal post.
I am still standing on my words.
Germans have an idea of old English or Germans do understand are similar in all context.

Did they speak it on the boats on their way to England?
Why i said that, were due to the fact that, old English is truly or really strange to modern English speakers.
The old English the Germanic tribes, spoke in England then, is really not the same as the modern English of today.

Most of the English language came from a mountain range in what we call SW Soviet Union and before that it came from a plain in what we now call Iraq.

So you have no way to counter it, it would just be easier for you to admit that, and you'd look more honest if you did.
